Job Responsibilities:

Independently purchases assigned materials, supplies, and equipment for a program team in accordance with company policies and procedures in order to meet company objectives.  Provides resource knowledge, recommendations, and direction to program teams.  Generally, completes the following duties and responsibilities with the support of purchasing management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generally assigned to high complexity commodities.
  • Develops and utilizes knowledge of commodities and supplier cost structures to achieve cost reduction and price negotiation objectives, including but not limited to market testing, resourcing, VA/VE activities, and target pricing in conjunction with Strategic Purchasing objectives. 
  • Presents and implements strategies, with management approval, to achieve company and program cost reduction objectives utilizing negotiations and VA/VE, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Assists purchasing management with the development of presentations on negotiation strategies for executive management. 
  • Supports Program Management with sourcing activities for the program teams and completes bid recap for key stakeholder approval, based on program cost, quality and technology requirements, program milestones, and Strategic Purchasing direction.  Communicates business awards to suppliers.
  • Utilizes commodity and cost driver knowledge to ensure pricing for design revisions are equitable and competitive with the global market. Challenges supplier responses and negotiates pricing with suppliers for new business awards and engineering changes.
  • Establishes pricing in a timely manner (before implementation) completing all necessary documentation.  Maintains information on supplier piece cost, revision levels, and capacity.
  • Manages the resolution of problems in supplier performance such as quality and delivery with the JIT Plants.
  • Consults and collaborates with personnel in various engineering, purchasing, and costing activities relative to program requirements. Conducts effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with guidance from purchasing management and senior purchasing personnel. Maintains all appropriate documentation.
  • Determines the appropriate course of action, during RFC process, in assigning whether an RFC should be an estimate, directional or firm quotation.
  • Supports Program Management via RFC/PCN process with program teams and suppliers.  Assures all quote information is entered into Agile / PLM+ for processing.
  • Actively pursues cost reductions from the supply base in support of department business plan goals
  • Conducts supplier capacity studies and validates all suppler commercial impacts.
  • Manages the coordination of the supplier resource activity between the JIT plant and supplier.
  • Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
  • Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
  • Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organizations established objectives and targets utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations. Establish clear goals for workplace health and safety. Complete safety talks, safety meetings, and required training occur, as defined.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree (or bachelor’s equivalency) in Business Administration or related field; or combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Experience/Special Knowledge/Skills

Five (5) years preferred of diversified purchasing, costing, or related experience.

Specialized knowledge in a particular commodity.

Ability to apply quantitative analysis skills with a fundamental understanding of material, labor, burden structures, and cost drivers.

Ability to develop and implement comprehensive commodity strategies to reduce costs and ensure effective supplier performance.

Knowledge and experience in using cost reduction tools including global sourcing, VA/VE, Kaizen.

Working knowledge of statistical methods, i.e. APQP, DFSS.

Product knowledge in automotive parts or material commodities.

Strong communication skills: verbal and written.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.

Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving.

Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
