Specialist Solution Engineer – Analytics (Tableau)
Location: This position is based in the Pacific Time zone and is open to candidates located in Washington and California. Fully remote and hybrid work arrangements are available.
Travel: Up to 25% travel for customer engagements and team events.
Overview
Join the Salesforce Solution Engineering team and help the world’s top technology companies turn data into decisions. Our Solution Engineers work with customers, Sales, Product, and Professional Services to drive the technical sale and help customers realize business value across the entire lifecycle.
What Role Are We Hiring For?
This Analytics Specialist Solution Engineer (Tableau) role supports our Technology, Media & Telecom (TMT) Enterprise accounts. You’ll partner with Account Executives and Analytics sales teams to show how Tableau, Tableau Next, and CRM Analytics work with Agentforce and the modern data stack. TMT customers run on platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Google BigQuery, and other cloud data platforms, so you’ll meet them where their data already lives.
You’ll be a hands-on builder and a recognized thought leader who takes an idea from a whiteboard to a working solution, and can present it to the C-suite.
Responsibilities

  • Align solutions to the technology challenges of complex TMT Enterprise accounts. Drive consensus across multi-product solutions, with a primary focus on the Analytics portfolio.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on business development, strategy, and product demonstrations.
  • Lead with thought leadership: share a point of view on analytics, AI, and data trends through customer conversations, executive briefings, events, and internal enablement.
  • Present to the C-suite: confidently engage CXO-level stakeholders and connect technical solutions to business outcomes.
  • Define ambiguous business problems through discovery, then recommend practical next steps.
  • Build, don’t just present: create working demos, rapid prototypes, and proof-of-value solutions that take a customer idea to a tangible outcome.
  • Bring a deep understanding of LLMs, including building agents on both open and closed models.
  • Build data models hands-on in Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, and other platforms.
  • Understand token consumption and design architectures that manage it effectively.
  • Advise on customer data and analytics architecture, including how Tableau and Salesforce integrate with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery) and transformation tooling (dbt).
  • Apply sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDPICC, Challenger, Value Selling) to qualify opportunities, build business cases, and advance deals alongside the account team.
  • Tailor solutions and demos for multiple personas, from data engineers to executives.
  • Complete product, sales, and procedural training and certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS, Data Science, or equivalent experience. We evaluate experience on core competencies, including leadership, military service, volunteer work, and work history.
  • Deep industry experience, with a track record of presenting to and influencing C-suite executives.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in analytics, data, or AI, such as speaking, publishing, or advising customers on strategy.
  • Hands-on experience with Tableau, CRM Analytics, or Tableau Next. Familiarity with data visualization, dashboarding, and self-service analytics best practices.
  • Hands-on expertise with modern cloud data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Practical experience with the modern analytics stack, such as Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, and dbt.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills across structured and semi-structured data.
  • A proven builder mindset, with a track record of taking ideas to working solutions.
  • Working knowledge of sales methodologies and how a technical role supports a deal cycle.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. You’re comfortable with technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior solution engineer, sales engineer, or consultant experience at a CRM, analytics, or BI company, or in a similar customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience selling to or supporting technology, media, or telecom customers.
  • Experience building with AI tools (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, etc.) as part of a demo toolkit.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML fundamentals and how analytics platforms surface AI-driven insights (Einstein, agentic AI, predictive analytics).
  • Basic scripting experience (Python, JavaScript, HTML, or similar).
  • Salesforce and Tableau certifications.
  • Experience with design thinking, persona-based discovery, or workshop facilitation.

How We Work

  • Builder mentality: we show up with working demos and real solutions, not just slides.
  • Customer obsession: we go deep on customer problems before prescribing solutions.
  • Peer teaching: we share what we learn, internally, with customers, and at industry events.
  • Flexibility: fully remote or hybrid, working Pacific Time hours.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
