Boeing is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Software Certification Engineer (Senior or Lead) to be an integral part of our Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Software Engineering team in Everett, WA. This critical role contributes directly to the safety, reliability, and certification of advanced aircraft software systems, ensuring compliance with stringent FAA regulations and industry standards. As a key technical expert, you will drive the certification of software across Avionics, Cabin, Electrical Subsystems, Flight Controls, Interiors, Mechanical and Hydraulics, Network Systems, and Propulsion domains-helping to safeguard the lives of millions who depend on Boeing's excellence every day.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and supply chain to ensure high-quality software delivery and certification success. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior or Lead Engineer.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers focused on the design, analysis, and testing of aircraft systems and components, with an unwavering commitment to safety
  • Cultivate a safety-first mindset within the engineering unit, ensuring that all engineering practices prioritize the well-being of passengers and crew
  • Collaborate closely with the FAA to navigate the complex certification process, ensuring that all aircraft designs comply with stringent regulatory requirements and safety standards
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies that emphasize safety and reliability, aligning with Boeing's commitment to delivering the highest quality aircraft
  • Serve as the primary liaison for FAA representatives, facilitating transparent communication and collaboration throughout the certification journey
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of comprehensive technical documentation required for FAA certification, ensuring that all materials reflect the highest standards of accuracy and thoroughness
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, instilling a deep understanding of safety protocols and certification processes to enhance their professional growth and technical expertise
  • Analyze and resolve complex engineering challenges with a focus on safety, leveraging data-driven decision-making and industry best practices
  • Monitor project progress and performance, ensuring that engineering solutions are delivered on time and meet all safety and certification milestones

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee
  • 9+ years of experience in software development life cycles, configuration management and best agile software engineering practices
  • 9+ years of experience with DO-178C and supplements (DO-331, DO-332) and DO-330
  • 5+ years of experience as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Technical Standard Order (TSO) Certification Specialist
  • 5+ years of experience working in aerospace, defense, or similar high-tech industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Level 5: 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 9+ years of experience leading software development projects
  • Current Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Technical Standard Order (TSO) Certification Specialist
  • Experience with concurrent software and distributed systems
  • 9+ years' experience developing, documenting and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
  • Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
  • Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics
  • Experience using common software version control tools such as Git
  • Experience with Agile planning tool such as JIRA, TSF

Summary Pay Range Senior (Level 4) - $158,100 - $213,900
Summary Pay Range Lead (Level 5) - $190,400 - $257,600
