MEDHOST is hiring a Software Architect to join their team! The successful candidate is a technical leader responsible for the architecture of MEDHOST’s applications and products. This role sets architectural direction, evaluates technologies that strengthen our products, and coaches and mentors others to a higher level. The Architect also leads the team’s adoption of AI-driven development, applying the AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC), large language models (LLMs), and AI coding agents to accelerate delivery while maintaining architectural quality and human oversight.

The Architect partners with product management, application management, operations, fellow architects, and development team leads in strategic, tactical, and design planning.

What your impact will be:

  • Set the architectural vision and milestones for teams building highly scalable Java and web-based applications.
  • Lead the adoption of AI-driven development practices, including the AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC), and define how AI coding agents such as Claude Code are used across the inception, construction, and operational phases.
  • Establish standards for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated code and design artifacts to ensure quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate and architect solutions that integrate large language models (LLMs) into MEDHOST products and internal workflows, with appropriate attention to security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Employ the existing architectural stack and collaborate with the rest of the enterprise to evolve it.
  • Review and approve technical designs to ensure the architectural integrity of the system, and help teams deliver according to development standards.
  • Participate in the complete software development lifecycle within an Agile process, from requirements through testing and deployment.
  • Plan for performance requirements, set performance targets, and troubleshoot production bottlenecks, including JVM, application server, and database performance.
  • Develop and evolve development practices (e.g., unit test strategies, code review, build, and deployment).
  • Evaluate new technologies and develop proofs of concept as needed, while staying current with technology and architecture trends.
  • Meet with clients and internal users to determine long-term system needs and requirements that support the company’s business objectives and external client interface requirements.
  • Provide technical support and assist clients with technical implementation requirements and plans.
  • Coach and mentor team members (regardless of role: developer, tester, or product manager) on the appropriate use of technology to address customer and business needs.
  • Maintain the effectiveness and implementation of the MEDHOST Quality Management System and meet applicable regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Responsible for QMS procedures listed in QMS Procedure Crosswalk found in QMS Manual as applicable.
  • Other duties as required to support and meet the needs of the organization.

What we look for:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or an Engineering field.
  • 4 years of development experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or an Engineering field and 6 years of development experience, with significant hands-on Java experience.
  • Significant technical leadership experience and maturity.
  • Hands-on experience applying the AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) or similar AI-native development methodologies to production software.
  • Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs), including prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and integrating LLM APIs into applications.
  • Experience using Claude Code or comparable AI coding agents in day-to-day development, including configuring project context and guiding agents through structured, reviewable workflows.
  • Experience designing and implementing a highly available environment, as well as the nuances of a clustered solution.
  • Experience designing and implementing infrastructure aspects (server, middleware, and network) of web-based applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization, including written and verbal communication and documentation ranging from whiteboards to architecture diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of database concepts including design, implementation, support, and performance optimization.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based systems.

What would make you stand out:

  • Experience with some or all of the following:

o    AI: Claude Code, LLM APIs, AI-DLC

o    Server side: Java (JDK 17+), Spring Framework / Spring Boot (DI, REST, AOP, Spring
Security), Tomcat, RHEL.

o    Client side: Angular, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript

o    Data: DB2 on IBM i (AS/400 / Power Systems), SQL.

o    Tools: IntelliJ IDEA, Maven or Gradle, JUnit.

  • DB2 / AS/400 / Power Systems experience and understanding a plus, as the application is backed by DB2 / AS/400 / Power Systems.
  • Healthcare knowledge a plus (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED, Medi-Span, etc.).

What We Offer:

  • Salary: 125K-150K per year
  • Plenty of opportunities to grow your career
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 3 weeks of vacation plus 5 personal days to recharge
  • Employee stock ownership, RRSP program, 401k + matching
  • A chance to give back through community involvement
  • Flexible work arrangements to suit your lifestyle

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
