The sky is no longer the limit as Nidec takes its technology off the ground and into the Aerospace market. As a Software and Firmware Engineer Liaison with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise to design electric propulsion systems for the battery-powered aircrafts that will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B.

Nidec is the world’s leading electric motor manufacturer and a true pioneer in electrification across a wide array of industries since its foundation in 1973, ranging from appliance, energy infrastructure, to ground transportation. Nidec Aerospace is a newly created Joint Venture between Nidec and Embraer which intends to take a leading role in the Electrification of Aircrafts. From ideation to production, you will work with a diverse and experienced team of design engineers to support aerospace industry leaders and spearhead technological advances in transport decarbonization.

Job Description
The software and firmware liaison engineer is responsible for defining the software/firmware development processes, coordinating the capture of software/firmware requirements, interfacing with suppliers, reviewing and approving software/firmware deliverables and providing in-house engineering support for technical issues. For this position the candidate will work in a collaborative cross-functional environment for the development of an Electric Engine.

  • Lead the software/firmware engineering effort.

  • Plan and coordinate software and firmware development activities with suppliers, customers as well as internal Nidec Aerospace personnel.

  • Monitoring of software/firmware supplier activities Review and approval of software/firmware deliverables.

  • Definition of development assurance plans, procedures, work instructions and tools

  • Capture of software and firmware requirements

  • Communication and alignment with Certification Authorities

  • Provide guidance concerning compliance to DO178C, DO254, DO330 and DO331.

  • Provide guidance concerning model-based design.

  • Interface with the Systems Engineers and Equipment Engineers to provide technical guidance.

  • Interface with the customer to align certification and technical issues.

Technical Attributes and Experience
• Experience in New Product Development and Phase-Gate processes
• Experience in software development according DO178C
• Experience in software model-based design
• Experience in firmware development according DO254
• Experience in requirements management and V&V process
• Experience in handling issues with certification authorities
• Willingness to work with, and travel to, domestic and international design and manufacturing locations when necessary.
PREFERRED:
• Experience in modelling
• Experience in integration of electronic hardware and motor control
• Experience in ARP4754A process.

Minimum Requirements (proficiency levels aligned to job level)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field
• 7 years of experience in software/firmware process assurance and/or software/firmware development
