About the Role
We're looking for a Social Media Manager to own and grow Empathy's presence across social, on a contract basis. This is a strategic, hands-on role for someone who sets the vision and drives it to results, turning our brand, campaigns, product launches, and category point of view into social-first storytelling that resonates.
What makes this role distinctive is the dual audience. You'll build brand resonance and community with the people we ultimately serve — members and families navigating hard moments — while speaking fluently to the B2B audiences who bring Empathy to them: life insurers, wealth firms, benefits leaders, HR teams, insurance agents, and wealth advisors. You're equally comfortable crafting an emotionally resonant brand moment and a sharp, credible B2B narrative.
You'll lead with LinkedIn as our B2B engine and Instagram as our brand and community home, extending to other channels as they earn their place. You care about results as much as craft, you're fluent with AI, and you bring the emotional intelligence our subject matter demands. You'll work closely with Growth, Brand Design, Product Marketing, and Communications.
In this role you will- Own Empathy's organic social strategy and execution end-to-end, leading with LinkedIn and Instagram and extending to other platforms as they make sense
- Build and grow engaged audiences across both our consumer and member community and our B2B audiences (insurers, wealth firms, agents, advisors, benefits leaders, HR)
- Own copy and creative direction for platform-native content, publishing on a consistent cadence and partnering with our Design team to bring visuals and video to life
- Translate campaigns, product launches, research, reports, client stories, user testimonials and brand moments into social-first stories tailored to each audience and channel
- Drive thought leadership and executive and employee amplification on LinkedIn to reach and influence B2B buyers
- Set clear goals and own the numbers: track engagement, audience growth, and turn performance data into creative direction
- Run a continuous test-and-learn engine across hooks, formats, timing, and angles, and report clearly on what's driving results
- Steward Empathy's brand voice with care and emotional intelligence, given the sensitive nature of our work (loss, caregiving, and serious illness)
- Use AI tools to accelerate ideation, production, and iteration without compromising quality or trust
- Stay ahead of platform trends, formats, and algorithm shifts, and bring fresh ideas to the table
- Collaborate with our in-house Brand Design and Motion Design teams, and external partners as needed, to execute the creative vision
- 7+ years managing organic social for a leading, memorable, and forward-thinking brand, ideally spanning both consumer and B2B audiences
- A track record of growing and engaging audiences, with a data-driven, results-oriented approach
- An excellent writer with a clear creative vision, and a passion for storytelling, who knows how to direct our Design team and leverage the right tools to bring ideas to life and drive results
- Deep fluency in LinkedIn (B2B thought leadership and amplification) and Instagram, with comfort extending to TikTok, YouTube, or X
- Strong brand and storytelling instincts, and the emotional intelligence to handle sensitive subject matter with care
- Ability to translate complex or regulated topics into clear, resonant, and trustworthy content
- Strong grasp of B2B personas and how to make a brand relevant to business buyers, not just consumers
- Fluency with AI tools for content creation and workflow acceleration
- Analytical: fluent in social metrics and reporting, and able to turn data into creative decisions
- A self-directed operator who thrives in a fast-paced startup and manages multiple priorities at once
- Ability to work east coast hours
- Bonus: experience in health tech, insurance or benefits, fintech, or another trust-sensitive, B2B2C category

- Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
- Location: Remote (US)
- Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential to extend)
