A Little About Us

Yahoo Finance is the world’s leading business and financial news platform, helping millions of daily users navigate markets, manage their portfolios, and make informed financial decisions. Our social media team sits at the heart of this mission, translating complex economic movements, breaking earnings report moves, and personal finance trends into highly engaging, native social content. We are a collaborative team that blends creativity and editorial rigor with fast-moving workflows to capture audiences across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn.

About the Role

Yahoo Finance is looking for a social media editor who will create content for Yahoo Finance across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn. This role follows a Thursday to Monday schedule and requires someone who is reliable and independently motivated to work productively on weekends, finding ways to engage audiences when markets are closed. We are looking for an editor who is excited to adopt an AI-augmented workflow to work smarter and faster in a rapid newsroom environment.

You’re the kind of person who:

  • Can take a complex story — an earnings move, a viral money trend, a new stock IPO, a housing story — and turn it into a clean, compelling 15–60 second video, Instagram carousel, or shareable graphic.

  • Produces social content that’s native to each platform and understands what engages audiences in the first 1–3 seconds.

  • Thrives in a fast-moving newsroom environment, juggling multiple assignments, shifting quickly between breaking news and evergreen ideas, and remaining deeply tuned in to what works on social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch, produce, and post social media content, including short-form vertical videos and social graphics that tap into news, markets, and personal finance.

  • Edit and adapt Yahoo Finance videos, shows, and articles into social-friendly stories.

  • Create quick-turn reactionary content for breaking news and live events including company earnings, Fed decisions, jobs reports, major stock moves, business news, and live events.

  • Capitalize on social trends and pop culture moments, finding ways to connect Yahoo Finance to the social conversation.

  • Bring a strong creative engine and self-starter mindset, consistently generating fresh ideas, proactively pitching concepts, and moving quickly.

  • Help storyboard or lightly direct on-camera talent (anchors, reporters, executives, and celebrities) for social-first content.

  • Use platform and third-party analytics to understand what’s performing, what’s not, and adjust work accordingly.

  • Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies in day-to-day workflows, utilizing approved generative text platforms (such as Anthropic Claude) to assist in drafting multi-platform social copy, brainstorming hooks, and optimizing video scripts.

  • Integrate AI-assisted editing tools

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience creating social content for a journalism or media outlet.

  • Deep understanding of social media platforms with experience creating engaging content on all major platforms.

  • Ability to edit video end-to-end in tools like CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, etc., as well as static graphic production capabilities using tools like Adobe Photoshop or Canva.

  • Strong news judgment with an ability to write clear, concise social copy and on-screen text that makes complex topics compelling, clear, and easy to understand.

  • Familiarity with (or strong interest in) business, markets, and personal finance.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Experience using social publishing or analytics tools (e.g., Sprout, native platform analytics).

  • Hands-on experience using generative AI tools or copilots to accelerate creative workflows

  • An open, experimental mindset with a commitment to continuous learning in an evolving, AI-augmented newsroom environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience creating social content for a brand with expertise in short-form vertical video.

  • A proven track record of creating content that grows a brand’s social media accounts.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
