Business Wire revolutionized the Press Release Distribution industry, and we’re ready to do it again. But we need your help. Our Marketing team is seeking a high-concept, craft-driven Senior Visual Designer. Reporting to the Lead Designer, this role blends visual storytelling and conceptual ideation with eye-catching, functional design and production. The projects you’ll lead include digital ad campaigns, white papers and guides, to web page creation, short videos, and more. At Business Wire, collaboration is critical to the work we do. You’ll partner with multiple team members to craft compelling and beautiful design, all to connect with current and potential customers. If you’re an innovative, forward thinking, self-motivated designer, hungry to create inspiring visuals that create brand momentum, this role could be for you.

What You Will Do

  • Bring a fresh design perspective to the Marketing team and entire organization with digital ad campaigns, digital asset needs, presentation design, marketing deliverables (white papers, guides, and other content), web page design, and more.
  • Participate in and/or lead high-level concepting, ideation, and visual storytelling for a wide range of audiences and marketing deliverables that generate conversation and brand engagement.
  • Own your creative process from conceptualization to creation, while managing feedback from Lead Designer, collaborators, and stakeholders, ensuring engaging design work throughout all projects and deliverables.
  • Help evolve the Business Wire brand with visual design that demonstrates curiosity and exploration, along with brainstorming of new ideas, concepts, and styles, for a relentless pursuit of “what could be.”
  • Reflect audience insights: create design that reflects a deep understanding of audience motivations and needs, using data to drive visual concepts and decisions.
  • Visual balance: we need a designer who instinctively knows how to create balance with design (look, feel, theme) and story (copy, tone, brand voice).
  • Create engaging videos and images for ad campaigns, website, and social channels.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies to confirm marketing objectives, creative direction, and brand consistency.

What You Will Need

  • 5+ years of design-focused experience within a small corporate marketing or agency environment (or even better – both!).
  • Strong portfolio of design work samples, showcasing dynamic, creative thinking and execution. This should illustrate your ability to design powerful visual concepts, then turn those concepts into usable design deliverables.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts and ideas into compelling, easy to understand design.
  • Functional knowledge of design fundamentals (color theory, balance, symmetry, etc.) layouts, typography, photography, interactive media, and demonstrated knowledge of branding principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and other creative editing tools.
  • Strong communication skills – written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal.
  • A commitment to follow-through with accountability as a dependable teammate who knows what needs to be done and operates with urgency, focus, and discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic arts, design, communications, or related field.

  • These would help:
  • Familiarity with UI/UI Design preferred. Some HTML and CSS also a plus.
  • Knowledge of video editing with Final Cut Pro or other video editing software a plus.
  • Experience with HubSpot a big plus

What We Offer

  • The base salary range for this position is $100K to $110K/year. Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.  Business Wire reserves the right to modify this salary range at any time.
  • Business Wire’s total rewards include:
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Excellent health benefits that begin on your first day of employment
  • $100 monthly fitness allotment, a tuition reimbursement program, and enhanced mental health resources
  • 401(k) plan with generous company match, and annual profit sharing contribution (subject to company performance)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
