Position Overview

Exact Science’s Customer & Digital Experience (CDX) team is responsible for defining, driving, and delivering innovative, immersive, memorable customer-centric journeys for all our customers, across all channels (digital and physical). These journeys are grouped by Customer Types (e.g., Patient, Provider) and further categorized into a set of Experiences (e.g., Understand Risks & Complete Screening, Confirm Diagnosis). Each Experience has a set of specific, measurable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that the overall team is accountable to fulfill.

As a UX Researcher you’ll join a team of designers, writers, product managers, and engineers working to understand user needs. You’ll play a critical role in creating useful, usable, and effective products that align to both the user needs and established OKRs. The UX Researcher will work alongside the UX Research Manager to help plan and execute qualitative and quantitative research and uncover insights to recommend experience improvements. This role lives and breathes user experience and research. The UX Researcher is full of curiosity about the whole human—understanding their challenges, their behaviors, and their lives. They are motivated to uncover innovative solutions based on all types of data, qualitative and quantitative alike, and are passionate about creating delightful digital solutions with a cross-functional team. Through deep knowledge of the user and business, they seek solutions and opportunities for an improved user experience. They can articulate research findings and present solutions in a manner that is compelling and clear.

Primary location(s): Madison, WI, with additional locations in San Diego, CA; Cambridge, MA; Redwood City, CA; Phoenix, AZ. This role can be hybrid or remote, depending on the candidate's location.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the identification, planning, and execution of qualitative and quantitative research methods to understand our users and their needs, identify experience improvements, and discover new opportunities.
  • Translate business needs and stakeholder requests into research objectives and their accompanying tasks and questions.
  • Help synthesize research results, prepare clear and impactful presentations, and deliver them to the team and broader organization.
  • Experience creating personas, scenarios, storyboards, conceptual models, journey and experience maps, service blueprints, and/or other artifacts to help drive design vision and strategy.
  • Demonstrate empathy for users, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Work closely with the UX Research Manager and cross-functional partners (including, but not limited to, CDX Research, product management, the UX design team, the business, and the engineering team) to identify knowledge gaps in our understanding of the experience and contribute to solving for those gaps.
  • Contribute to digital product creation at multiple phases in the process and work with technology teams to support implementation and post-implementation testing.
  • Apply strong problem-solving, analytical, and creative skills.
  • Apply strong organizational and time management skills with a proactive and logical approach to workload and ability to work both independently and within a team.

  • Ability to communicate with designers about stimuli created in tools such as Figma.
  • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Develop an understanding of accessibility best practices.
  • Advocate for the UX vision of patient and provider Experiences/Journeys; possess the knowledge and passion to articulate it clearly, concisely, and compellingly across audiences.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 5-10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Psychology, Human Factors, Engineering, or related field of study; or High School Degree/General Education Diploma (GED) and 4 years of relevant experience as outlined in the essential duties in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of experience working at a UX Researcher or equivalent role.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and implement various quantitative and qualitative UX research methodologies, maintaining a deep methodological toolkit.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and communicate in a constructive and collaborative relationship with a cross-functional team that includes designers, product managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and company leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand, and break down complex business operation functions, customer journeys, user needs, and workflows.
  • Experience with UX research utilizing various methods such as usability studies, contextual inquiry, or surveys.
  • Understanding of both exploratory and evaluate UX research.
  • Comfort with moderating and/or notetaking during usability sessions.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, wellness, or digital health.
  • Experience conducting research that reflects the diversity of our culture and conditions, taking into account race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, etc. 
  • Experience with both the physical product and digital product space.
  • Experience with both B2C and B2B products and/or services.
  • Proficiency in communicating user research findings with cross functional partners to drive impact.
  • Working knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Suite, Figma, Sketch, etc.
  • Working knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of HTML.

Salary Range:

$89,000.00 - $151,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
