The Senior Underwriter evaluates and underwrites Middle Market technology accounts within established authority, applying sound judgment and available financial, operational, exposure, industry, and claims information to make data-driven decisions on risk selection, coverage, terms, conditions, and pricing, with limited guidance from leadership as needed. Applies knowledge of the technology sector and Middle Market insurance products to assess exposures such as software and technology services, cloud computing, data centers, technology consulting, telecommunications, cyber-related dependencies, intellectual property, professional services, products liability, and other relevant operational risks. Exercises sound underwriting judgment while balancing growth, profitability, customer needs, and Liberty Mutual's risk appetite.

- Underwrites Middle Market technology accounts within established authority, making analytical, data-driven decisions on risk selection, coverage, terms, conditions, and pricing with limited guidance from leadership.
- Evaluates technology-sector exposures, including software and technology services, cloud computing, data centers, telecommunications, technology consulting, intellectual property, professional services, and other complex or unusual risks.
- Manages a portfolio of brokers, agents, and clients by developing strong market relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and representing Liberty Mutual in the marketplace.
- Underwrites new business, renewals, and account changes by analyzing financials, exposure data, loss history, risk controls, valuations, and evolving technology-related dependencies.
- Monitors portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, emerging exposures, regulatory developments, and loss trends; recommends actions to support profitable growth and portfolio quality.
- Contributes to product development, process and tool improvements, and department initiatives while collaborating with UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, Product, Distribution, and GRS North America underwriting leaders.
- Mentors junior underwriters and new hires by sharing expertise in technology risks, underwriting practices, systems, and market dynamics; this role has no direct people-management responsibility.
- Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
- A minimum of 2.5 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related experience
- CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
- Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process, and proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
- Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
- Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business
