Turion Space is building spacecraft for national security and in-space operations. From debris removal to space domain awareness to building a more secure space economy, we are a team focused on getting real software and hardware to orbit fast and scaling capability.

We are looking for an experienced and systems-thinking Senior UI/UX Designer to lead the charge in establishing our product design foundation at Turion. This is a scrappy, high-impact role in the early stages of design, where you’ll be instrumental in creating, evolving, and owning UX strategy from the ground up. This would include setting process standards, driving design decisions, and mentoring others as the design function grows. As a Senior UI/UX Designer, you’ll work closely with leadership, engineers, and technical stakeholders to translate complex space systems into intuitive, accessible, and efficient interfaces.

This is an impactful opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and wants to define how humans interact with cutting-edge space technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver elegant, scalable, and user-centered experiences for both internal operations and external-facing tools

  • Build the foundations of the design process—including user research practices, design systems, and usability testing protocols

  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and technical operations to ensure seamless implementation of interfaces across web and embedded platforms

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear user flows and intuitive interfaces

  • Conduct UX research and usability evaluations to validate design assumptions and prioritize solutions

  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals that bring ideas to life

  • Define and advocate for UX best practices while fostering a design-driven culture across the organization

  • Drive cross-functional alignment around UX decisions and ensure stakeholder buy-in at every level

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX or product design

  • Proven track record of leading design projects end-to-end—from discovery to launch

  • Experience mentoring or leading other designers, with a passion for creating a supportive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team environment

  • Portfolio showcasing UX thinking, interaction design, and systems-level problem-solving

  • Proficiency in Figma and modern design tools

  • Ability to articulate design rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving environment

  • A systems thinker who can design for flexibility, edge cases, and future scale

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or other technical/regulated industries

  • Experience working in a startup or early-stage environment, where adaptability and initiative are key

  • Educational or professional background in human psychology, behavior, or cognitive science

  • Comfortable balancing speed with design quality and knowing when to apply which

  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams

  • Familiarity with data visualization, telemetry interfaces, or control panel design

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
