At Secret Door, we believe some of our best memories come from shared experiences with friends. We make games designed to bring people together, and we're looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer who shares our passion for creating thoughtful, engaging player experiences.

We're looking for a versatile Designer who can bring together UX design, UI art, and hands-on implementation in a game engine. You'll help shape how players interact with our games, from exploring early concepts and refining user flows to creating polished interface art and bringing those designs to life in-engine. You'll have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions across the development process, collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, and help shape the player experience in games built around shared experiences and play. You would be joining Secret Door at an exciting stage of development as we prepare Shadowstone for Early Access in late 2026, and would play an important role in refining and polishing the game's UI/UX as we approach this milestone, with the opportunity to contribute to other projects as our development efforts evolve.

What You Will Do

  • Design intuitive player experiences by creating wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and interaction designs that make gameplay and navigation feel seamless and intuitive
  • Develop visually polished interface elements and help establish a cohesive visual language for game UI, from individual components to complete screens and menus
  • Implement UI and UX designs directly in-engine, working hands-on to ensure interfaces function as intended and meet quality expectations
  • Develop and adapt interface experiences for PC and mobile, with consideration for console where applicable
  • Evaluate gameplay and interface experiences, identify opportunities for improvement, and refine solutions through prototyping, testing, and iteration
  • Help define UI/UX principles, workflows, and processes that make design decisions clear and actionable for the broader team

What We Need

  • Professional experience designing UI and player experiences for video games, with an understanding of the unique challenges of interactive products
  • Strong UX design skills paired with the ability to create polished UI art
  • Experience implementing UI in a game engine, ideally Unity, and collaborating with Engineers to deliver functional, polished interfaces
  • Experience designing for PC and mobile is especially valuable. Experience with console interfaces is a plus
  • Proficiency with Figma for creating wireframes and interactive prototypes, along with Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent tools for creating and refining UI assets
  • Ability to take ownership of your work, navigate ambiguity, communicate proactively, and work effectively with a small, multidisciplinary team.
  • A player-first perspective with a desire to create interfaces that support and enhance the overall play experience

Application Materials

  • Please include a resume, cover letter and portfolio with relevant game UI/UX samples

The base salary range for this position is $104,591 to $174,318 USD per year, which is associated with our Level 3 salary band. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
