Design user experiences and interfaces for operating, monitoring, and interacting with deployed robots. Create fleet dashboards, user journeys, wireframes, interaction designs, high-fidelity visuals, and developer handoffs. Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams; address complex workflows, edge cases, safety considerations, and real-time data. Establish Rhoda’s visual design system, design processes, and quality standards as its first dedicated UI designer.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Rhoda AI, we’re building the next generation of generalist intelligent robots. We own the full robotics stack from high-performance hardware and robot systems to the infrastructure and state-of-the-art foundation world models that control our robots. Our robots are designed to be generalists capable of operating in complex, real-world environments and handling long-tail edge cases, made possible by our cutting edge research and end-to-end system design. We've raised over $450M and are investing aggressively in model research, infrastructure, hardware development, and manufacturing scale-up to make generalist robotics a reality.

We're looking for a UX/UI Designer to shape the digital interfaces that real operators, customer stakeholders, and internal customers use to interact with our robots in the real world. This is a foundational role that establishes the tone and design for key user touchpoints, as well as the types of design processes we seek to establish at Rhoda. This role focuses on digital UIs as part of a larger human-robot interaction system that directly engages with the future of physical AI and robotics.

What You'll Do

  • Design the UX and UI for human-machine interfaces for operating, monitoring, and interacting with robots in real-world deployments.

  • Design fleet status and management dashboards that surface real-time system health, task progress, and operational state across large robot deployments.

  • Own the full design process across ideation, wireframes, interaction design, and high-fidelity visual design through handoff to development.

  • Deliver design concepts and assets using modern tooling, such as Figma and Claude Design.

  • Develop user journeys and flows that map how both internal teams and external clients interact with our products, surfacing pain points, edge cases, and opportunities.

  • Work closely with engineering, product, and operations to ensure designs are technically grounded and shippable.

  • Build and maintain a visual design system and set standards for how Rhoda approaches product design going forward.

What We're Looking For

  • A portfolio that demonstrates both strong UX thinking (flows, journeys, information hierarchy) and high-caliber UI execution (visual design, layout, aesthetics)

  • 4+ years experience designing complex, real-time interfaces with data density and time-sensitivity that connect to physical hardware in the real world.

  • Comfort operating across the full design spectrum: from rough sketches and whiteboard sessions to polished, precise handoffs.

  • Strong eye for visual design. You care deeply about typography, color, spacing, and the details that separate good from great.

  • Ability to think through multi-step user flows, edge cases, and error states in complex, high-stakes environments that involve human safety and multiple autonomous agents.

  • Strong proficiency with industry-standard design tooling and pipelines.

  • Self-directed with strong communication skills, including that ability to collaborate with highly technical teams while advocating for user needs clearly.

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

  • Experience in robotics, industrial automation, manufacturing, warehousing, or other mission-critical operations environments

  • Background in HMI or control interface design for hardware devices.

  • Familiarity with designing for real-time data visualization and streaming state.

  • Experience as a first or early designer at a startup requiring setting processes from the ground up.

Why This Role

  • Be Rhoda's first dedicated UI designer. Define how design works here, from tools and process to the quality bar the company holds itself to.

  • Design interfaces that real people use to operate real robots in the real world, in environments where good UX directly affects outcomes.

  • High ownership and real influence over the product experience from day one.

  • Join at a foundational moment in a company building technology that will define what the next generation of intelligent machines looks like.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
