Position Summary:

Technical Writers here at Semperis are primarily responsible for researching and writing the original content for technical product documentation that explains complex computer software solutions. Our writers are self-motivated, willing to take on new challenges, and adaptive to a fast-paced, rapid development environment where advanced communication skills and positive team collaboration are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Write, review, and maintain technical product documentation for multiple products.

  • Interview developers and subject matter experts to become familiar with product technology and collect information for documentation purposes.

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of products and customer usage.

  • Ensure usability of documentation by verifying a document’s content against the actual product.

  • Adhere to technical documentation standards.

  • Identify contradictions, technical omissions, and inaccuracies in documentation.

  • Conduct and participate in technical reviews of documentation to ensure consistent quality of the documentation set.

  • Contribute to setting standards and developing procedures for technical product documentation.

  • Collaborate with peers to improve documentation development processes to increase efficiency and quality of product documentation.

  • Review, edit, and proofread materials.

  • Train and lead less experienced writers.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of technical writing experience documenting software applications.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; strong organization skills.

  • Has an inquiring mind with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to comprehend and explain complex content.

  • Ability to formulate questions that focus on documentation omissions and inadequacies.

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, tight deadlines, and surprises with ease.

  • Ability to be creative in the preparation of documents while remaining compliant with company standards.

  • Demonstrates strong computer skills and proficiency in help authoring, online documentation publishing, and desktop publishing tools.

  • Demonstrates strong understanding and use of agile software development methodologies and source control systems.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Excellent oral communication, presentation, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with a team of developers and SMEs located around the world.

  • Ability to effectively train, lead, and guide less experienced writers.

  • Experience using MadCap Flare.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications listed above, preferred candidates have the following qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience with an emphasis in English, Technical Communication, or Information Management.

  • Proficiency in topic-based authoring; ability to take individual topics and create comprehensive product guides.

  • Experience working with source control systems, such as Git.

  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements.

  • Experience writing cybersecurity software documentation.
