As a Senior Technical Artist on the R&D Technical Art Team, you will collaborate with the Art, Design, UX/UI, and Engineering teams to create, implement, and maintain UI systems. You will help to design, prototype, and integrate functional interfaces by utilizing Unreal Engine’s UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics UI Designer), Material Editor, and Blueprint Visual Scripting system. Working closely with these departments, you will standardize and improve the technical development processes for the production of in-game UI elements with supporting materials and shaders.
This is both an artistic and technically oriented art position and requires a combination of art sensibilities, technical knowledge related to the game dev environment, and a high degree of communication and collaboration.
Responsibilities:- Maintain and extend core functionalities of shaders, materials and their libraries
- Provide technical support to developers who interface with UI content or workflows
- Ensure our UI is optimal by balancing the art needs with tech constraints, and facilitating improvements to its iteration and development
- Implement and maintain UI for in-game screens, features, and content utilizing UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) within Unreal Engine
- Integrate functionality using Unreal Engine’s Blueprint Visual Scripting system
- Document and disseminate findings, techniques, and processes to both technical and non-technical team members
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and artists to understand and address challenges, and to drive the technical vision forward
- 5+ years experience as a technical artist in the game industry
- Proficiency in shader languages like HLSL, GLSL, or Cg.
- Extensive experience with UI and material implementation in modern game engines, such as UMG in Unreal
- Strong art skills with experience and an understanding of both 2D and 3D Art workflows for games
- Highly proficient communication skills and capacity to act as an ambassador between Art and Engineering
- Superb critical thinking skills, especially in regards to translating artistic requirements into sustainable workflows
- Proficiency in tools programming, particularly with Python or C++
- Experience with Adobe Suite (including Substance), especially from a tools development perspective
- Experience with Figma
