About The Role:

As a Taxation Specialist you will be the subject matter expert on tax advice planning for Facet members. You will be a part of our frontline team that keeps our company on the cutting edge of the financial services industry by providing recommendations to our members and educating the internal team on tax planning opportunities and tax code changes. 

Your Day-To-Day Responsibilities:

  • Meet with 5-10 members a week to review tax strategies available to them and provide education when needed.
  • Review 15-20 member profiles per week and provide recommendations based on their tax situation and broader financial planning goals in coordination with their Financial Planner.
  • Correspond with members directly to answer their tax questions in accordance to their service tier.
  • Research tax issues to develop effective tax planning solutions.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Planning on all aspects of tax advice as it relates to the Facet Way of financial planning.
  • Create tax withholding recommendations for members. 
  • Educate teammates and members on tax specific questions. 

Commonly Discussed Strategies:

  • Roth Conversions
    • Review tax returns with complex income sources to determine the best solution for Roth conversions.
    • Understanding of the impacts Roth conversions have: IRMMA, healthcare subsidies, Social Security taxability.
  • Charitable Donations
    • Experience explaining charitable donation strategies to members (DAF, QCDs, etc.) and the tax impact of the contribution. 
  • Rental properties
    • Expertise in depreciation strategies, expense deductions, PAL rules, and 1031 exchanges.
  • Business planning
    • Ability to provide general guidance around business structure and best practices for business owners. 
    • Experience analyzing the tax impact of a business sale to help members make informed decisions.

Requirements

Job Specific Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience leading a scaled tax prep solution
  • 7+ years experience in personal tax preparation and advice
  • CPA Designation or EA 
  • Ability to identify tax issues as they arise.
  • Deep understanding of different employee stock option plans (RSUs, ISOs, NSOs, etc)
  • Deep understanding of tax law and regulations, specifically how it impacts individuals 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience at a Financial Planning focused firm. 
  • Ability to handle multiple client engagements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and client service skills 
  • Client first attitude, professional demeanor, personal integrity and an understanding of fiduciary responsibility 
  • Excellent computer skills along with the ability to learn in-house software and tools 

Benefits
  • $110,000 - $150,000 base salary + bonus determined by the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant - Please note, our salary ranges are based on current market data.
