Exploding Kittens is seeking to hire a driven, accountable, and technically strong Senior Staff Accountant who is passionate about accounting operations, driving process improvements, and taking full ownership of assigned responsibilities. 

This role requires excellent communication, strong attention to detail, thorough follow-through on deliverables, and the ability to work collaboratively and proactively with various cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate consistent reliability in meeting deadlines, proactively identify and address issues, and ensure accuracy in all work products. In this role you will own key operational processes and systems including revenue, royalties, commissions, cost of sales, operating expenses, monthly close, inventory, tariffs, balance sheet reconciliations, and consolidation and ad-hoc reporting.  You will report to the Director of Accounting. 

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Perform the general accounting functions related to Co-Ops, Commission, Royalties, and Discounts, including accurate and timely executive level reporting
  • Manage revenue recognition process ensuring compliance with all systems, validate all system transactions with a critical eye, and produce required reporting
  • Own inventory and related costs; including accurate recognition of capitalized costs, calculation of excess and obsolescence, and clear documentation of methodology
  • Prepare complex journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet management; execute month-, quarter-, and year-end close procedures independently and on schedule
  • Drive complex data analytics and reporting with precision and clarity
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Logistics, and Finance to ensure accuracy within Revenue, Cost of Sales, and Inventory, demonstrating proactive communication and problem-solving
  • Assist in external audits and ensure that assigned areas have complete, accurate, and well-organized supporting documentation
  • Identify, recommend, and help implement accounting and internal control policies and process improvements with initiative and accountability 
  • Foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement, refining processes, policies, and documentation to enhance financial reporting

WHAT WE NEED:

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience 
  • BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required 
  • Exceptional attention to detail with demonstrated accountability for accuracy and completeness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive approach to cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to leverage technology to build scalable processes, gain efficiencies, streamline accounting operations, and improve outcomes 
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work independently 
  • Team player with proven ability to take initiative, multi-task, work efficiently, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of taking ownership of work and driving tasks to completion without the need for repeated oversight
  • Based in Los Angeles, CA
