About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to play a critical role in the development of a DO-178C DAL-A certified flight control system. This individual will be responsible for decomposing high-level system requirements into detailed, verifiable low-level software requirements, and establishing/maintaining bi-directional traceability between requirements and implemented source code. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of the DO-178C standard and best practices for requirements engineering in safety-critical systems. This role will work closely with system engineers and software developers to ensure the integrity and completeness of our requirements and their implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Requirements Decomposition: Decompose high-level (T5) software requirements into detailed, verifiable low-level (T6) software requirements suitable for implementation and testing.
- Traceability Matrix: Develop and maintain a robust bi-directional traceability matrix linking T5 requirements to T6 requirements and ultimately to source code (using tools like Polarion, Jama Connect, or similar).
- Requirements Verification: Assist in the development of verification plans and procedures to ensure that low-level requirements are met.
- Requirements Analysis: Analyze requirements for completeness, consistency, and correctness. Identify and resolve ambiguities or conflicts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with system engineers, software architects, and developers throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Documentation: Create and maintain clear, concise, and accurate requirements documentation in accordance with DO-178C guidelines.
- Change Management: Participate in the requirements change management process, assessing the impact of changes and updating documentation accordingly.
- Tool Proficiency: Utilize requirements management tools to manage requirements, traceability, and verification activities.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in software requirements engineering, specifically within a safety-critical environment.
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- Strong understanding of the DO-178C standard, particularly related to requirements processes (DAL-A experience highly preferred).
- Proven experience in decomposing high-level requirements into detailed, verifiable low-level requirements.
- Experience creating and maintaining requirements traceability matrices.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion, Jama Connect, DOORS).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with flight control systems or other aviation software.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices.
- Experience with static analysis and code coverage tools.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience working in a startup environment and a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating requirements tasks.
Salary Range: $100k - $130k
The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
Location: Preferred on-site support in El Segundo, CA / or Remote (6 months duration)
