Build and maintain IDRE, a healthcare payment dispute platform, across frontend and backend systems. Own transaction logic for disputed claims, settlement calculations, and payment records. Develop with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and AWS; improve services, observability, and CI/CD. Ensure HIPAA-grade handling of sensitive data, clarify ambiguous requirements, and deliver features end-to-end in a fast-paced startup environment.
The Role
IDRE is VeraTru's platform supporting the Independent Dispute Resolution process for healthcare payments. You'll join IDRE as a hands-on senior fullstack engineer and own your work end-to-end. This is a builder role, not an architect role. We want senior engineers who live in the code and own their product area, not people who design from a distance. You're comfortable in ambiguity, you're a fast-learning generalist, and you drive your work to done.
Responsibilities- Build & Ship — Own features end-to-end — frontend (React/Next.js, TypeScript) and backend (Node.js/TypeScript, Python) on AWS.
- Own the Transaction Layer — Build and maintain the logic that handles disputed-claim transactions, settlement calculations, and payment records tied to arbitration outcomes.
- Improve What You Own — Refactor toward maintainable services, add observability (CloudWatch + Grafana), and strengthen CI/CD within your product.
- Quality & Compliance — Uphold PII and HIPAA-grade standards for sensitive health and financial/transactional data.
- Ownership in Ambiguity — Break down loosely-defined work, clarify with your lead, and ship without waiting for a perfect ticket.
- Demonstrated Senior Capability — 5+ years building production-scale web apps. We prioritize demonstrated technical capability and ownership over raw years.
- Fullstack Core — Strong with React/Next.js + TypeScript and Node.js/TypeScript + Python, comfortable across the whole stack.
- Generalist & Fast Learner — You pick up new domains, codebases, and tools quickly and thrive as a hands-on generalist.
- Cloud & Reliability — AWS (S3, CloudWatch), observability, and CI/CD.
- AI-Forward — Comfortable working with AI tools as part of an agentic SDLC (spec/requirement breakdown, test generation, AI-assisted coding).
- Startup Experience — Proven track record thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments.
- US-Based — Must be based in and authorized to work in the United States.
- AI / LLM — Hands-on experience integrating LLMs into products (document processing, embeddings, provider abstraction).
- Domain Exposure — Payments/transactions, fintech, or healthcare claims/billing systems (HL7/FHIR) is a strong plus given IDRE's settlement-transaction core.
- Real Ownership — Deep, hands-on ownership of a real product in a meaningful industry.
- Modern Stack — React/Next.js, Node, Python, AWS, and production AI — with Go on the horizon.
- Meaningful Purpose — Your work helps resolve healthcare disputes fairly and transparently.
- High Autonomy — Fully remote, ownership over micromanagement.
