About Us

Axle Health builds AI scheduling and workforce management software to empower in-home healthcare providers to deliver exceptional, personalized care right where patients feel most comfortable—at home.

Some of the biggest providers in the country use our software (like Cityblock Health and U Penn Health System) to improve the utilization of their field teams by 17%+, and automate the operational burden of scheduling and dispatching.

Our platform includes proprietary logistics algorithms to optimize scheduling, a mobile app for field staff, an operations dashboard for office teams, engagement and booking tools for patients, and a wide range of integrations and external APIs for modular access.

We’re a team of top-tier engineers and operators, backed by $14m from top investors such as Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime, applying our intellect and logistics experience to upend how home healthcare is delivered.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep frontend expertise to join our Engineering team, building the interfaces that clinicians, office teams, and patients rely on every day. Axle's platform handles complex scheduling and workforce management workflows in real time, and the frontend needs to make that complexity disappear for the people using it. This role sits at the intersection of product craft and technical rigor, and the person who thrives here cares as much about how something feels as how it's built.

Our ideal candidate brings expert-level React and TypeScript skills, meaningful React Native experience, and strong architectural instincts for frontend systems at scale. You've built polished, performant user experiences before (whether at a large consumer product company, a healthcare platform, or a fast-growing startup) and you know how to work across a team without losing your connection to the code.

What You’ll Do
  • Architect and build scalable frontend systems integrated with GraphQL APIs and real-time data streams

  • Implement responsive web applications and mobile experiences across clinician, office, and patient-facing surfaces

  • Build performant React components and UIs that handle complex scheduling and logistics workflows with clarity and speed

  • Develop and maintain our React Native mobile application used by field clinicians in real time

  • Lead frontend code reviews and establish best practices for component architecture, state management, and performance

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on modern frontend development patterns and healthcare application requirements

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver cohesive, high-quality user experiences

  • Optimize application performance for mobile devices and variable network conditions in healthcare environments

Requirements
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with strong frontend focus

  • Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript using modern architectural patterns

  • Experience building and deploying React Native mobile applications

  • Hands-on experience with GraphQL client libraries (Apollo Client preferred)

  • Strong understanding of web performance optimization and mobile-first development

  • Experience with responsive design, CSS-in-JS, and modern styling frameworks

  • Proven ability to lead rigorous, constructive code reviews and architectural discussions

  • Strong technical communication skills — able to explain decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments with a track record of operating with autonomy

Nice to Have
  • Experience building healthcare applications with complex compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC-2)

  • Familiarity with logistics, scheduling, or workforce management applications

  • Experience implementing real-time features (WebSockets, Server-Sent Events)

  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices

  • Familiarity with the Axle Health tech stack: React Native, Apollo Client, PostgreSQL, AWS, Datadog, Sentry

Tools You May Use
  • React + TypeScript

  • React Native

  • GraphQL + Apollo Client

  • PostgreSQL

  • AWS

  • Datadog + Sentry

  • Git / GitHub / Graphite

  • Jest + React Testing Library

  • Claude Code and Cursor

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
