Who We Are

Maybern is transforming the way private fund managers effectively manage their funds through cutting edge technology. Maybern is founded by top engineering experts with deep knowledge of the fund management space.

Private funds manage $15T in capital and are growing at 20% YoY, but with increasing regulatory scrutiny and investor demands for transparency, the need for world class software to help private fund CFOs is crucial.

This is where Maybern comes in.

We are equipping fund managers with intuitive, flexible fund management software, enabling private investment managers to focus on what they do best: driving returns for their investors. We are backed by leading venture capital firms and a large number of strategic investors.

Maybern is an NYC based company with a strong in-office culture to drive collaboration, and we are looking to make strong additions to our team.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a seasoned product-focused engineer to join our Calculations & Allocations team - the engine that powers every Maybern workflow. The problems we solve sit at the intersection of financial complexity and software elegance: building systems that make intricate allocation logic feel simple and intuitive for fund managers. This requires a long term/big-picture mindset, expert-level technical skills, and the business acumen to translate nuanced financial workflows into scalable, auditable software. Ideally you have spent a few years working as a technical lead on system design and backend development.

What You'll Do

To thrive in this role, you must be an entrepreneurial engineer who enjoys getting into the weeds.

  • Build: Design, test, and deploy core calculation and allocation infrastructure, including our Excel-like query language that allows customers to configure any calculation within our system

  • Lead: Architect and build foundational parts of our platform from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on correctness, scalability, and extensibility

  • Partner: Work closely with domain experts and client-facing teams to capture edge cases across complex financial scenarios - waterfalls, NAV loans, fee breaks, capital activity, and more - and translate them into elegant, configurable solutions

Who You Are

  • Collaborative. You partner naturally with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams. You can distill domain-specific feedback from client facing teams and translate it into precise engineering decisions

  • Systems Thinker. You approach problems with a technical and holistic mindset, considering broader implications and interconnectivity within workflows and processes.

  • Leader. You're eager to shape foundational infrastructure and will raise the bar on team practices. You can take broad guidance on complex financial problems and determine the best technical path forward

  • Strategic. You think about configurability from day one — balancing generalized mechanics that work across customers with the flexibility to support each fund's unique requirements

This Could Be a Great Fit If You...
  • Are comfortable working with server-side languages and frameworks (we're tech agnostic in interviews, but use Python and Django in practice)

  • Have a solid grasp of relational databases and transactions - especially in contexts where correctness and auditability are non-negotiable

  • Have experience building systems that are highly configurable and designed to handle significant variability across use cases

  • Are knowledgeable about platform/cloud technologies and distributed systems; AWS experience is a bonus

  • Are obsessed with details and genuinely excited to learn the mechanics of private markets (waterfalls, allocations, fund accounting) one workflow at a time

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Thrive in high-growth, fast-paced environments and can adapt as the product and team scale

Benefits
  • We offer a competitive salary + equity package, comprehensive benefits, and a flexible family-friendly work environment. Some of our perks include:

    • Comprehensive healthcare benefits

      • Maybern covers 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums

      • HSA & FSA plans

    • Family-Friendly policies

      • Paid parental leave

    • Flexible schedule

      • Flexible PTO / sick leave

      • WFH as needed to fit your needs

    • 401k

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
