The Company

Sofar is on a mission to connect the world’s oceans. We design, build, and deploy the largest privately owned network of marine weather sensors to power the world’s best marine weather forecasts. Our data helps our customers to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, delivering tools to governments and other stakeholders to understand impacts of climate change on extreme weather and ocean health. We live on Planet Ocean, and our goal is to create the ocean intelligence needed to ensure a sustainable future.

The Role

As a Senior Sales Manager, you will drive the growth of Spotter, Sofar Ocean’s industry-leading ocean sensing platform, across the US and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Asia). Leading a small team of global Account Executives, you’ll be responsible for expanding our customer base, managing key accounts, and refining our sales strategy for hardware solutions that deliver critical ocean intelligence.

You’ll work closely with maritime, research, offshore energy, and environmental organizations to deliver high-impact ocean data solutions while shaping the next phase of Sofar Ocean’s commercial success.

Impact You’ll Own
  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan focused on Spotter hardware across the US and EMEA.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of global Account Executives, ensuring strong pipeline growth and quota achievement.
  • Identify, engage, and close deals with key clients across maritime, offshore energy, and environmental sectors.
  • Lead the full sales cycle, from prospecting and relationship-building to negotiation and contract closure.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (product, marketing, engineering) to align sales efforts with market needs and customer feedback.
  • Expand channel partnerships to support global sales growth.
  • Represent Sofar Ocean at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Track and analyze sales performance, providing insights to Sofar’s leadership team.
About You

You’re a results-driven sales leader with a strong background in hardware or sensor technology sales. You’re equally comfortable closing large, complex deals and coaching a team to achieve aggressive growth targets. Most importantly, you share our passion for using technology to better understand and protect the ocean.

  • 7+ years of experience in hardware or solution sales, preferably in maritime, environmental tech, IoT, or offshore industries.
  • Proven success managing a team of sales professionals and driving revenue growth.
  • Experience selling into global markets.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills at the executive level.
  • Comfortable with technical sales, understanding customer needs and translating them into product solutions.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for customer meetings, conferences, and field engagements
Bonus Points
  • Background in marine sensors, oceanography, or offshore service business development.
  • Experience working with defense, government, or research institutions.
  • Multilingual proficiency in languages relevant to EMEA markets.
Estimated Salary Range
  • $250,000 - $300,000 OTE
  • The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.
Sofar's Commitment to Climate Justice

At Sofar Ocean, we recognize that careers in ocean science and technology have historically lacked diversity, limiting access and growth opportunities for underrepresented communities. Many of these same communities are disproportionately affected by climate change and are often excluded from decision-making that directly impacts their future.

We are committed to addressing these disparities and highly encourage applications from women, LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) candidates who are passionate about advancing ocean intelligence.

Employee Conduct

It is the responsibility of every employee to contribute to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

Equal Employment Opportunity

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other factors prohibited by law.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
