About the Company

Troveo builds the data platform that AI labs and model builders need to train the next generation of models. We have created the world's largest licensed platform of scarce, proprietary data for AI, spanning video, audio, text, and business workflows.

Troveo indexes, enriches, and packages this high-quality data into formats ready for training, fine-tuning, evaluation, and agentic use cases. Backed by top investors, we’re a small, high-impact team solving one of the biggest bottlenecks in AI development.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Researcher who thrives on exploration, discovery, and experimentation. You’re naturally curious and a tinkerer at heart, someone who wants to get hands-on with new models, techniques, and ideas to understand what they can actually do. You’ll stay ahead of industry trends and advances in AI and machine learning that open new ways to leverage our data, continuously surface opportunities to enrich our existing data assets, and keep us sharp on relevant AI and machine learning progress. Your focus is clarity on the what and why: well-researched opportunities, idea validation, and clear problem definitions that help guide the business toward its next potential opportunities in multimodal content, audiovisual assets, and training data generation.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor and synthesize trends across our industry, AI and machine learning research, foundation models, agents, evaluation techniques, and data enrichment methods.

  • Tinker with emerging models, tools, datasets, and techniques to understand their practical potential. Build lightweight prototypes, run experiments, and explore unconventional combinations to turn interesting ideas into evidence.

  • Identify high-leverage opportunities to enrich or restructure our existing assets (internal and external), including multimodal and audiovisual sources as well as approaches for generating high-quality training corpora that could improve model performance, product features, or decision-making.

  • Translate research into actionable outputs: opportunity briefs, experiment proposals, success criteria, and recommendations on what to explore next.

  • Own and advance a research program around priority data opportunity areas, including designing and running experiments and proofs-of-concept to validate hypotheses and de-risk ideas.

  • Partner with product, prototypers, and engineers by providing well-scoped ideas and serving as a research advisor.

  • Maintain living knowledge bases and briefings that keep the broader team informed.

  • Evaluate emerging techniques and papers for relevance in our context.

  • Contribute the research perspective to prioritization and longer-term opportunity discussions.

  • Support business operations in ad hoc requests.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in applied research or machine learning research.

  • Strong tinkerer’s mindset: enjoys getting hands-on with new models, APIs, datasets, tools, and techniques, and is comfortable learning by building and experimenting.

  • Deep familiarity with modern paradigms including large language models, multimodal models, retrieval-augmented generation, agent architectures, fine-tuning, model distillation, and evaluation frameworks.

  • Clear communication of research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree in Applied Sciences, Statistics, or a related field required.

  • Track record centered on opportunity discovery and problem definition.

  • Experience with data enrichment approaches such as synthetic data generation, active learning, weak supervision, and knowledge graph construction.

  • Ability to stay current across research and industry sources while separating signal from noise.

  • Experience collaborating with prototyping or applied teams is a plus.

  • Domain familiarity with our business area (or ability to ramp quickly) is valuable.

What We Offer

  • Remote-First Policy: Work from anywhere in the US (with occasional team offsites)

  • Learning & Growth: Annual learning stipend, access to top conferences, and direct mentorship from experienced founders

  • Modern Tech Stack & Tools: Budget for the best equipment and software

  • Strong Culture: High-trust, low-ego environment focused on impact, transparency, and work-life balance. We believe great work happens when people are supported, challenged, and given ownership.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
