Build long-term executive talent networks, host leadership events, and support high-priority hiring sprints.

At Bell Labs, Mervin Kelly built long shared hallways so chemists, physicists, and engineers would pass each other on the way to lunch. Some of the lab's best work started that way. Hiring leaders works the same: the person you need next year is often someone you met long before the role opened.

Mercury builds banking* and financial software for startups and growing businesses. The leaders we hire decide how that software gets built, sold, and kept safe. We're hiring a Senior Recruiter to help find them.

You'll join our small executive recruiting team, partnering with our founders and execs on Director to C-suite hiring. Most of your searches will be Director and VP roles, with a tilt toward Engineering, Product, Design, and Data. You'll also get to know strong leaders before we have a role for them, and jump into hiring sprints when the business needs it.

*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

Here are some things you'll do on the job:
  • Run full-cycle Director and VP searches, with a focus on Engineering, Product, Design, and Data leadership
  • Break each role down with the hiring manager (what the team needs to build or fix, and who has done it before), then turn that into a market map and target list
  • Talk scope, team, and tradeoffs with senior candidates, and represent Mercury's leadership when they can't be in the room
  • Use market data to advise hiring managers, push back when a spec won't find anyone, and catch a stalled search early
  • Host executive talent events and build a network of leaders for roles we expect to open in the next 12 to 24 months
  • Step into hiring sprints and other high-priority searches across Mercury
  • Give senior candidates an experience they remember, from first note to offer
You should have:
  • 5+ years of full-cycle, in-house recruiting across a range of functions at a growing company
  • Experience running Director+ searches, and an interest in making them most of your work
  • A track record as a trusted advisor to senior hiring managers, ideally CTOs, VPs of Engineering, or product leaders
  • Relationships with senior people that you built well before you needed them
  • Clear, precise writing and communication skills
  • Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter, Greenhouse, Gem, Metaview, or similar tools
Experience that's a strong plus:
  • Technical leadership hiring in Engineering, Product, Data, or Security
  • Recruiting at a fintech or other regulated tech company
  • Running events, dinners, or communities for senior talent
  • Time at a retained search firm before moving in-house

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
