Position Overview: The Senior Product Manager will play a pivotal role in defining and driving the strategic direction of our product portfolio. This individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, sales, and marketing, to ensure that our lighting products align with market trends, customer needs, and company objectives. This role requires a strategic and innovative thinker with a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and a passion for creating exceptional products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define product vision & positioning: Shape a multi-year product vision that aligns with market trends (e.g. human-centric lighting, IoT smart controls, energy efficiency) and company goals.
  • Roadmap planning: Prioritize product features, enhancements, and new releases based on ROI, technical feasibility, and competitive landscape.
  • Business case development: Build financial models (TCO, NPV, margin analysis) and secure executive approval for new product lines or major upgrades.
  • Market research: Track regulations (e.g. Title 24, DLC listings), standards (e.g. ANSI, UL), and emerging technologies (solid-state lighting, Li-Fi).
  • Voice of customer: Conduct interviews, surveys, and field visits with architects, electrical contractors, distributors, and end users to uncover pain points and needs.
  • Competitive analysis: Monitor competitor portfolios on specs, pricing, channel strategies and use findings to inform product differentiation.
  • Requirements & specs: Translate customer needs into detailed product requirements (optical performance, color rendering index, lumen output, IP rating, dimming protocols).
  • Agile execution: Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, acceptance criteria and user story refinement with R&D, mechanical and firmware engineering teams.
  • Design collaboration: Partner with industrial designers to balance form-factor, thermal management, manufacturability, and cost targets.
  • Pricing & packaging: Develop cost-plus and value-based pricing models; define SKU configurations and accessory bundles.
  • Sales & adoption tracking: Monitor revenues, backlog levels, and market share by region/segment; adjust plans accordingly.
  • Post-launch support: Own warranty analysis, failure mode trends, and voice-of-field feedback; work with quality and service teams to resolve issues.
  • End-of-life planning: Manage obsolescence, inventory burn-down, and migration path communications for customers.
  • Standards adherence: Ensure products meet all required safety and performance certifications (e.g. UL 1598, CE, RoHS, DLC).
  • Executive reporting: Communicate roadmap progress, P&L impact and go-to-market results to senior leadership.
  • Partner relations: Engage with key suppliers (LED chip manufacturers, drivers, optics partners) to secure roadmaps and cost advantages.
  • Team development: Coach and mentor associate product managers, product managers; foster best practices in user-centered design and market analysis.
  • Technology adoption: Leverage AI technologies to accelerate product development and overall product category growth.

Qualifications:

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in the lighting industry and/or building and construction sectors is strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field required; MBA is a plus.
  • Project Management: Proven track record of managing multiple high-impact projects and shifting priorities while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with strong interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical Mindset: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Collaboration: Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to navigate fast-paced environments and align diverse teams toward shared goals.
  • Customer Focus: Deep understanding of customer needs and market dynamics, with a demonstrated ability to translate insights into actionable product strategies that drive growth and engagement.

 Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Hybrid

Salary: $160,000 annually, plus a 20% annual bonus tied to product category performance

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
