Senior Product Design ConsultantAbout Us

Founded in 2011, Modus is a global, fully remote team of world-class technologists who thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment. We’re a digital product engineering partner for forward-thinking businesses. Our global teams work side-by-side with clients to design, build, and scale custom solutions that achieve real results and lasting change, partnering with industry leaders including AWS, GitHub, and Atlassian.

We were fully remote before it was cool! Recognized as one of the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies for nine years and a top remote work company by FlexJobs, we have helped some of the world’s largest brands deliver powerful digital experiences.

As an award-winning Atlassian partner with a world-class team, we help organizations innovate and solve complex challenges for Fortune 500 companies and beyond, we want to hear from you.

Opportunity!

We are looking for a Senior Product Design Consultant to design and deliver thoughtful, usable digital products as part of collaborative, cross-functional delivery teams.

You’ll work closely with client stakeholders, product leaders, engineers, and quality specialists—from early product shaping through release and continued improvement. You’ll translate customer and business needs into clear workflows, intuitive interactions, scalable patterns, and polished product experiences.

This is a hands-on consulting role grounded in strong product design fundamentals. You’ll work primarily within scaled delivery pods while using AI-assisted tools to accelerate exploration and prototyping, strengthen delivery context, and reduce the distance between design and working software.

Requirements:
  • Significant experience designing and shipping digital products within cross-functional product or delivery teams.
  • Strong foundations in product design, interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, accessibility, and user-centered research.
  • A portfolio demonstrating complete product workflows and shipped outcomes, rather than only isolated screens or concepts.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma, component-based design, and modern design systems.
  • Experience translating product goals, user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints into clear and buildable experience direction.
  • Experience designing end-to-end journeys and workflows across multiple roles, states, devices, and edge cases.
  • Strong experience designing responsive web and/or mobile products.
  • Ability to create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, detailed interface designs, and clear implementation guidance.
  • Experience defining responsive behavior, interaction states, content expectations, accessibility requirements, and UX acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working within established brand and design systems while identifying gaps and creating reusable patterns where appropriate.
  • Strong collaboration with product managers, engineers, researchers, content designers, and quality specialists throughout delivery.
  • Experience partnering directly with engineers through implementation, design QA, release, and iteration, rather than relying solely on traditional design handoffs.
  • Experience conducting or supporting user research, usability testing, and concept validation.
  • Experience using product analytics and user feedback to inform post-release improvements.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted design, research, or development tools, or demonstrated experience actively incorporating these tools into product design workflows.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients in complex, evolving, and iterative delivery environments.
Bonus points:
  • Experience using Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI-assisted development environments.
  • Ability to create interactive or coded prototypes when they provide stronger learning or implementation context than static designs.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, or modern frontend frameworks.
  • Experience structuring design decisions and context so they can be effectively consumed by engineers and AI coding agents.
  • Experience evaluating AI-generated interfaces or code for usability, accessibility, coherence, and design-system alignment.
  • Experience designing AI-enabled or data-intensive product experiences.
  • Experience contributing to or evolving design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Experience helping clients improve their product design practices, systems, or ways of working.
You’ll Love:
  • Designing complete product experiences that move from early ideas through production and continued iteration.
  • Working closely with engineers and product teams to turn design intent into high-quality working software.
  • Solving complex workflows while maintaining clarity, usability, accessibility, and strong visual craft.
  • Using AI-assisted tools to explore faster, prototype more effectively, and improve the quality of delivery.
  • Working directly with clients as an embedded product partner.
  • Balancing user needs, business priorities, technical constraints, and delivery realities.
  • Contributing reusable patterns, tools, and practices that strengthen both individual products and the broader Modus Experience Design practice.

By joining our team, you’ll be part of a winning squad that plays to each other’s strengths and celebrates every success together.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
