Zoom is looking for a Senior Product Counsel to join our innovative Product Legal team. As Senior Product Counsel at Zoom, you will work on interesting and complex legal issues, including novel issues of first impression, as we help to build the solutions that bring people together through a frictionless and secure AI-first workplace platform. You will join our collaborative team of in-house lawyers as we proactively assess and mitigate legal risks and advise on products that impact Zoom and its users.

Responsibilities
● Be an integral part of Zoom’s Product Legal function with primary responsibility for supporting Zoom's products and features, including Zoom Docs, Calendar, Email, artificial intelligence, strategic integrations, Workvivo, and a variety of other products and services.
● Zoom has a global hybrid workforce, and this role must be willing to support teams in other timezones, including APAC.
● Partner with product teams to understand product, engineering, design, and operational implications of new products and initiatives.
● Identify relevant current and future legal, regulatory and policy requirements together with industry best practices as it relates to Zoom’s products and services.
● Advise multiple stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, security, privacy, trust & safety, and business development throughout the product development cycle on new products and the implementation of technological solutions.
● Conduct legal product reviews and maintain an inventory of features, technology, data, and compliance requirements.
● Regularly meet with internal teams (e.g. product) to understand strategies, roadmap, and initiatives, and advise on new features, activities, markets, etc., to ensure alignment.
● Provide pragmatic legal and regulatory guidance on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures, and help document guidance for consumption by members of both the legal and product teams.
● Draft clear and concise public facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use or other public facing documents for our customers.
● Review, draft and negotiate all types of agreements–including inbound, outbound, vendor, infrastructure, partnership, and AI-ML data/model agreements.

What we're looking for
● 10 or more years applicable experience; admission to a state bar.
● In-house experience as a product counsel at a technology company strongly preferred (bonus points for SaaS or AI-ML experience).
● Experience with UCaaS, communication platform technology, or collaboration features and with some of the legal issues we regularly face – such as privacy and data protection, artificial intelligence and machine learning, content regulation, intellectual property, marketing, and consumer protection – and a willingness to learn about the rest along with entirely new areas of law.

● Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams, build consensus among stakeholders, and maintain strong relations at all levels across the organization.
● Drive to take ownership of projects and tasks which, in some cases, will be matters of first impression.
● Openness to adapting their practice in response to a fluid and expanding product roadmap.
● Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and drive strategic projects to successful delivery.
● Sense of humor, excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, superior work ethic, flexibility and ability to work independently.
● Ability to quickly issue-spot and appropriately prioritize risk and outcomes.
● This is a high-profile position within Zoom’s Legal team and you must be comfortable interacting and appropriately communicating with all levels within the organization, including C-level team members.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
