Description

VAST Data is looking to hire a Senior Partner Solutions Engineer– OEM / eBox to join our growing team!

VAST Data is defining an entirely new category in enterprise infrastructure by building the world’s first Operating System for AI.

As VAST expands the ways customers deploy the VAST AI OS, we are looking for a deeply technical Partner Solutions Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert for VAST deployments on partner and customer-selected hardware, with a primary focus on the VAST EBox platform.

This role sits at the intersection of solution architecture, field engineering, product expertise and strategic customer engagement. You will become one of VAST’s foremost experts on how the VAST AI OS performs, scales and operates across partner hardware platforms—and a trusted technical resource for VAST Sales Engineers, partners and customers.

The Role:

The Senior Partner Solutions Engineer will own the technical strategy and field success of VAST’s partner-based deployment model.

You will help customers understand not simply how to deploy VAST on partner hardware, but how to get the most from the platform: how to size it, what performance to expect, how hardware and configuration choices affect the customer experience, and where customization can unlock additional value for strategic deployments.

You will support VAST Sales Engineers and partner technical teams throughout the sales cycle, acting as the technical authority for EBox-based solutions. For broadly repeatable deployments, you will provide architecture, guidance and best practices. For VAST’s most strategic opportunities, you will take a much more active role—helping design the solution, recommending customizations, validating readiness and taking accountability for a successful deployment.

Success in this role means making VAST on partner hardware a predictable, high-performance and differentiated customer experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as VAST’s technical subject matter expert for EBox and other partner-based deployment models.
  • Act as an escalation point and trusted advisor for VAST Sales Engineers designing solutions on partner hardware.
  • Participate in strategic customer campaigns that demonstrate the technical and economic value of deploying the VAST AI OS on partner platforms.
  • Size and architect solutions based on customer workloads, performance objectives, capacity requirements and infrastructure constraints.
  • Develop clear expectations for performance, scalability, resiliency and operational experience across supported hardware configurations.
  • Understand how server, networking, storage media, and configuration choices affect VAST performance and customer experience.
  • Recommend and help validate platform customizations for highly strategic opportunities, including understanding the downstream impact of those changes on performance, supportability, lifecycle management and operations.
  • Guide customers and partners through pre-installation readiness, infrastructure validation and deployment planning.
  • Develop custom installation and success plans for complex or strategic deployments.
  • Lead or coordinate troubleshooting of challenging deployment issues spanning hardware, networking, configuration and VAST software.
  • Partner closely with Support, Engineering and Product to resolve field issues and translate deployment experience into product and process improvements.
  • Build repeatable architectures, deployment practices, sizing methodologies and technical guidance that enable the broader SE and partner ecosystem to operate independently.
  • Support VAST Amplify and other software-defined deployment models that extend the VAST AI OS across customer-selected infrastructure.

Requirements
  • Exceptional technical depth across enterprise infrastructure, with the ability to understand how hardware, networking and distributed software interact as a complete system.
  • Deep hands-on experience deploying, tuning and troubleshooting complex infrastructure in production data centers.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise storage, distributed systems, software-defined infrastructure and server architecture.
  • Strong networking expertise, including the ability to diagnose connectivity, configuration, topology and performance issues.
  • Ability to translate workload requirements into infrastructure sizing, architecture and realistic performance expectations.
  • Experience evaluating the impact of hardware or configuration changes on system performance, reliability and operational behavior.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and the ability to isolate complex problems across hardware, networking, firmware and software layers.
  • The credibility and communication skills to serve as a technical authority for experienced Sales Engineers, customers and partner engineering teams.
  • Comfortable moving between strategic architecture discussions and hands-on technical problem solving.
  • Background in sales engineering, field engineering, professional services, implementation, support engineering or a similar customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience with OEM server platforms and/or enterprise storage technologies is highly desirable.
  • Ability to travel to strategic customer and partner locations across the United States as required.

Ideal Background:

The ideal candidate combines the technical depth of a senior field, services or support engineer with the architecture skills and customer presence of an experienced Sales Engineer.

Strong candidates may come from enterprise infrastructure, storage, networking or software-defined systems companies. More important than any specific company background is the ability to become a true platform expert: someone who understands how the solution behaves in the real world, can guide other technical teams with confidence, and can take ownership when a strategic customer deployment needs to succeed.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
