About the role

We're looking for a sharp, conversion-obsessed copy writer who lives and breathes paid social and direct response. This is a role for someone who knows how to stop a scroll, communicate a value prop in seconds, and write copy that doesn't just look good, it performs.

The ideal candidate knows how to blend engaging storytelling with direct response best practices to create content that not only stands out, but also converts. You have a proven track record of writing copy that drives measurable action and you know how to iterate fast based on what the data tells you. You write UGC scripts that feel genuinely authentic to the creator, with the range to take on TV scripts and long-form projects as needed. You've worked across the full paid social ecosystem and understand the nuances of each platform, format, and audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own paid social copy across Meta and all major platforms with focus on conversion and performance.
  • Lead direct response copy strategy, developing copy frameworks, value proposition hierarchies, and messaging architectures that drive measurable results.
  • Write and iterate on a high volume of ad copy variants for using performance data to inform every creative decision.
  • Develop scripts for UGC-style content and influencer briefs that feel native to the platform while staying true to DR principles. Should have a strong understanding of how to deliver a hook, build urgency, and close with a clear CTA.
  • Contributing to :15 and :30 broadcast/connected TV spots when campaigns call for it.
  • Partner with the internal creative and growth teams to align copy strategy with audience targeting, funnel stage, and channel objectives.
  • Review performance dashboards regularly, extracting insights to brief new creative, kill what isn't working, and scale what is.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to maintain a consistent brand voice across all paid channels and consumer touchpoints.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5-6 years of copywriting experience, with the majority of your portfolio focused on paid social and direct response.
  • Deep fluency in DR copywriting principles.
  • A portfolio that leads with paid social performance work: scroll-stopping hooks, high-converting ad copy and UGC/influencer scripts. TV scripting examples are a bonus.
  • Demonstrated experience writing for short-form video formats across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Strong analytical instincts. You're comfortable in a performance dashboard and know how to translate data into creative action.
  • Experience in fintech, SaaS, subscription, or other non-physical product categories is a significant plus.
  • TV or long-form video scripting experience.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving, test-and-learn environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to sell a creative rationale to growth marketers and business stakeholders alike.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
