Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Role

At ECXD (Emerging Creative Experience Design), our mission is to craft multimedia experiences that blend motion, audio, visuals, and storytelling to amplify Netflix’s brand, drive innovation, and inspire meaningful connections with global audiences and partners.

We specialize in interaction, animation, cinematic UX, and engaging content-forward interfaces, working horizontally across products and platforms to create performant, intuitive, and delightful user experiences that immerse users, effectively convey information, and foster connections between Netflix, members, soon-to-be members, and B2B partners.

As a Senior Motion Designer, you will define how Netflix moves and sounds, exploring how animation, pacing, and audio enhance interaction, guide attention, and create emotional impact across all platforms.

Your Impact:

  • Define and evolve motion and audiovisual language across product surfaces, spanning member and nonmember experiences.

  • Prototype and deliver expressive, high-impact animations that bring interfaces to life.

  • Partner with UX and Product teams to integrate motion into user experiences.

  • Produce high-fidelity motion studies, vision videos, and storytelling artifacts.

  • Build scalable motion systems, templates, and tooling for cross-product adoption.

  • Ensure technical feasibility and fidelity in collaboration with Engineering and AV teams.

  • Guide creative execution with external contractors and agencies when needed.

  • Mentor peers and guide creative alignment across teams.

  • Deliver a variety of artifacts and storytelling mediums, including promotional concepts, vision videos, and interactive prototypes.

Must have:

  •  Mastery of motion design, timing, and visual rhythm in interactive or narrative contexts.

  • Strong sense of cinematic storytelling and audiovisual craft.

  • Strong cross-discipline partnership skills, able to see the big picture strategically, bring pieces together, and drive clarity through ambiguity.

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including UX, product, design, and audio.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for articulating design decisions and strategy.

  • Proactive and self-starting, able to uncover and propose solutions independently.

  • Ability to contribute to and influence impactful motion solutions across all phases of the product lifecycle.

Bonus:

  • Cinematic UI, entertainment or gaming branding, or interactive storytelling experience.

  • Audio design sensibility to enhance motion

  • Real-time prototyping (Unreal, Unity) or generative AI-assisted workflows.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
