Position Summary

The Senior Marketing Manager, Customer Engagement and Adoption leads athenahealth's marketing strategy for helping customers maximize the value of their athenahealth investment after onboarding and first year live. Focused on the growth phase of the customer journey, this Marketing leader is responsible for driving awareness, adoption, optimization, and utilization of athenahealth products and innovations, encouraging customers to deepen product utilization and realize ongoing value.

Working cross-functionally with Customer Success, Training, Product, and Portfolio Marketing, this leader translates business priorities and product innovation into scalable customer marketing campaigns and engagement strategies that accelerate adoption and strengthen long-term customer relationships.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Customer Marketing, this role serves as a strategic marketing leader responsible for building and scaling Customer Engagement & Adoption Marketing while leading one direct report with opportunity for future team growth.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the customer marketing strategy for post-onboarding engagement, product adoption, and customer value realization.

  • Lead integrated marketing campaigns and programs that increase awareness, adoption, and optimization of athenahealth products, features, and innovations.

  • Create scalable customer marketing programs that help organizations advance from foundational product use to optimized workflows and best practices, helping customers achieve measurable outcomes and maximize the value of their athenahealth investment.

  • Partner with Customer Success, Product and Training to support adoption initiatives and customer education efforts.

  • Establish and monitor marketing KPIs related to customer engagement, adoption, campaign performance, and customer value realization, using insights to optimize programs.

  • Represent Customer Marketing in cross-functional planning and lead the evolution of the Customer Engagement & Adoption Marketing function, including coaching and developing the team.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Stay current on customer adoption, customer education, digital engagement, customer maturity, and SaaS customer marketing best practices.

  • Represent Customer Marketing on enterprise initiatives and strategic planning efforts.

  • Partner with Customer Advocacy, Events and Community teams to reinforce adoption through peer learning, customer stories, and engagement programs.

  • Travel as needed to support customer events, executive engagements, and business priorities.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with modern AI tools and a proactive curiosity for leveraging emerging technologies to improve workflow efficiency and problem‑solving

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • 8–10+ years of experience in Customer Marketing, Customer Success, Product Marketing, Customer Education, Customer Experience, or related fields.

  • 3–5+ years of people leadership experience with demonstrated success coaching and developing high-performing teams.

  • Proven experience designing and scaling customer adoption, customer engagement, or value realization programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and lead initiatives without direct authority.

  • Strong strategic thinking, program leadership, stakeholder management, and organizational influence skills.

  • Experience using customer insights, product analytics, and performance metrics to drive business decisions.

  • Outstanding communication and executive presentation skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare technology, SaaS, or enterprise software.

  • Experience building or scaling customer adoption, customer engagement, or customer education functions.

  • Familiarity with customer journey mapping, product adoption frameworks, customer maturity models, and customer health metrics.


Expected Compensation

$127,000 - $217,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
