About the Role

The Senior Manager role implements and oversees the Series and Specials video strategy along with the Global Head of Audio and Director of Production Operations.   The successful applicant will be an experienced and collaborative video manager who will work closely with executive producers, producers and editors across our network to help our shows create compelling long-form and short-form video.  This role will also work closely with outside distribution and production partners to drive company initiatives.

Responsibilities

    • Manage a team of production managers and video editors, overseeing overall video production standards across our full portfolio of shows

    • Drive our podcast video strategy on YouTube, Apple and other platforms to help achieve audience growth and reach KPIs.  

    • Lead video content ideation to help our team think in a video-first manner

    • Work with key stakeholders within The Athletic and NY Times and also outside distribution clients to ensure our video products are meeting all required specs

    • Source and manage team of freelance editors as well as outside production partners, working on contracts and juggling team needs and schedules

    • Act as a technical support for executive producers and producers on the Series and Specials team

    • Oversee the training and development of EPs and producers in video editing by sourcing useful training tools, hosting regular office hour sessions and evaluating progress

    • Weigh in on sport vertical goals and manage the team effectively toward those goals, with wide latitude in how goals are accomplished

    • Contribute ideas toward a vertical’s yearly forward-looking coverage plan Contribute meaningfully to the creative process but know when to step back and let the EP take the reins

    • Work closely with the commercial team to execute on brand partnerships

Requirements

    • 8+ years experience in video production

    • Excellent line management and leadership capabilities.

    • Understanding of all video platforms and best practices

    • Ability to ingest, consolidate, contextualize and communicate complicated information

    • Excellent management and presentation skills   

    • Excellent knowledge of sports and news

    • Ability to manage high profile journalists under extreme time pressure

    • Strong video editing skills highly desirable

    • High level of professionalism; organized driven and motivated with excellent follow-up

    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

    • Creative and strategic thinking skills

    • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

    • Has a deep understanding of sports with a fluency in how topics are covered and discussed by fans. Has an ear for high quality creative output that resonates with listeners

    • Is an excellent coach of others and knows how to effectively delegate

    • Ability to execute in the short term while planning long term

    • Some travel may be required

    • This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada

The annual base salary range for this role is $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location.

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s), a company-matching 401(k) plan, paid vacation, paid sick days, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development programs.
