Company Description

GDI is an incubator for transformational development ventures, working to build and scale the next generation of social impact solutions. From climate to agriculture, health to economic inclusion, we build across sectors to drive game-changing impact at scale. Whether the concepts originate from sector experts, or are developed and tested ourselves, we create new approaches to address persistent global issues.

Over 12–36 months, we deploy our functional teams to help early-stage initiatives design their business strategy and model, develop their brand identity, hire and retain talent, and construct their financial and operational infrastructure.

Since our founding in 2013, GDI has built a significant track record in our field, having now shaped over 70 social impact ventures.

Job Description

The Senior Manager will report to our Resource Mobilization Lead and work directly with our Portfolio and Venture Directors in two to three of our major portfolio areas such as global economic development (which includes livelihoods, youth employment), agriculture, and climate. The role will require creativity in seeking out new relationships while also working with GDI’s current relationships, skill in developing partnerships across funder types, and a willingness to support collaboration across portfolios to meet resource mobilization goals. The successful candidate will also play an important role building GDI’s resource mobilization systems.

Responsibilities

  • Create resource mobilization strategies in 2–3 major GDI portfolio areas (usually 3-4 concepts are in active development in a portfolio at a given time)
  • Facilitate efforts to develop major funding partnerships including supporting concept note and proposal development, identifying prospective funders, recommending engagement and outreach approaches across funder types, and ensuring strong collaboration in funder engagement efforts across portfolio areas
  • Work directly with Resource Management Lead to upgrade and manage internal systems and processes related to planning and documenting funder cultivation efforts, developing pipeline reporting, and collecting and distributing philanthropic trends and key funder research
  • Identify donor engagement opportunities to position GDI’s portfolio level work and learnings and connect with diverse funder audiences
  • Develop and update portfolio level marketing assets

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience in fundraising and relationship management.
  • A track record of designing resource mobilization strategies, cultivating new prospects, and maintaining strategic funding relationships in at least one of our major portfolio areas
  • A strategic view and ability to address complex issues creatively and effectively
  • Fluency in the languages of social impact, global development, and public-private partnerships
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Effective communicator (verbally and in writing) with ability to convey data and insights in a clear and compelling manner across a variety of development topics
  • An interest in learning, a curious and entrepreneurial mindset, and a relentless drive to get things done

Note: GDI is only able to consider candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for an employment visa.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
