The Team:
Upstart’s Internal Communications team is dedicated to helping Upstart’s diverse, talented, and mission-oriented workforce feel connected to the business, appreciated for their contributions, and inspired by what’s ahead. A small but mighty team, we are responsible for everything from our weekly all employee meeting to keeping our intranet content fresh, celebrating our Upstarters anniversaries to contributing to our Annual all employee in-person gathering.
As the Sr. Manager of Internal Communications at Upstart, you will play a hands-on role in driving employee engagement via oversight and production of our weekly All Hands meeting, creative storytelling through our employer branding work, broad ownership of our internal communications calendar, and partnership with many leaders and teams across the business for consultation of their most critical communication needs and engagement challenges.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Weekly TGIF All-Hands Production
- Consult with the Sr. Director on weekly calendar planning and speaker bookings
- Lead presenter development sessions, including content discussions and rehearsals
- Own end-to-end production: presenter guidelines, timelines, run-of-show, agendas, and speaker confirmations
- Facilitate weekly planning meetings and drive ongoing improvements to TGIF’s effectiveness
- Lead TGIF Q&A management, post-event wrap-ups, and performance measurement
- Employer Brand & External Storytelling
- Partner with Recruiting and External Comms to manage the Upstart employer brand voice across all platforms, including Upstart’s LinkedIn and Built In pages
- Create and maintain a forward-looking employer brand content calendar
- Lead monthly blog content strategy and social distribution in partnership with Recruiting Operations
- Communications Channel & Calendar Management
- Own Upstart’s internal communications calendar to ensure awareness and alignment on major milestones
- Act as “air traffic control” for company-wide messages across email and key Slack channels
- Internal Knowledge Hub (Guru) Ownership
- Maintain the Guru “homepage” and ensure content reflects the most relevant and timely employee programs
- Own company-wide knowledge content libraries—review, update, and streamline with functional partners
- Establish and uphold content ownership protocols and run annual audits
- Build and maintain a company-wide glossary of terms
- Track and report monthly and quarterly engagement insights
- Enterprise Intelligence (internal AI Search Support)
- Establish and maintain a process to flag and resolve outdated, inaccurate, or inappropriate content within company systems
- Employee Experience & Programs Comms
- Serve as a comms advisor/consultant for internal teams managing static, recurring company programs Collaborate with internal partners to ensure clear and consistent messaging
- Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Regularly measure the reach, impact, and performance of communication channels and formats
- Produce quarterly communications dashboards highlighting engagement trends and improvement opportunities
What we’re looking for:
Minimum Requirements:
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or employee engagement
- Core Skills & Competencies
- Strategic & Tactical Agility – Comfortable moving between big-picture strategy and in-the-weeds execution
- Relationship Building & Influence – Builds strong, trust-based relationships across all levels
- Editorial & Messaging Sensitivity – Exceptional writing, editing, and voice/tone alignment

- Measurement Mindset – Comfortable with metrics, dashboards, and data-informed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous large company experience building internal communications process and protocols
- Previous experience with intranet design and content governance
- A love of collaboration and teamwork and deep understanding of how the internal communications function provides value
Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote
In-Office requirements. While Upstart is a digital first company, we are not fully remote. The Internal Communications team gathers for in-person work for 2-3 consecutive days, 2-3 times per year and also participates in our People Team All Hands and All Company onsite annually, for which you will be required to travel .
Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.
At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

$134,900—$187,600 USD
