Engine X is growing fast and credit decisioning is a core risk control. The Sr. Manager, Credit owns the underwriting operating model for Engine’s corporate card: the credit standard, the backtest infrastructure, the portfolio analytics, and the team executing against it.
The end state is a credit function where the majority of applications are decided automatically, with human judgment reserved for complexity and edge cases. You're the person who builds the bridge from here to there — owning the manual operation today while driving the criteria, model inputs, and policy decisions that make automation possible.
What You'll Do- Hold the credit team accountable to the underwriting standard — set decision quality expectations, review portfolio performance, and ensure the team executes with consistency and rigor.
- Write and own the credit underwriting standard: what signals support which limits, what triggers exception treatment, and what the escalation path is.
- Build backtest infrastructure — run proposed rule changes against historical application data before deploying, including false positive analysis on approved accounts.
- Partner with Data Science on credit model inputs, validation, and the transition from manual review to automated decisioning.
- Lead and develop the credit team — set expectations, provide feedback, and build analytical capability.
- Deliver portfolio analytics to leadership — delinquency rates, cohort performance, limit utilization, and exception trends.
- Coordinate with Fraud Operations on application fraud signals that overlap with underwriting decisions.
- Partner with senior leadership on credit policy governance — ensuring credit policy changes go through the right review and sign-off process.
- 8+ years of credit underwriting or credit risk experience.
- 3+ years of experience leading a credit team with a proven track record of designing operating models, not just managing existing ones.
- Commercial Credit Expertise: Deep experience in business or commercial underwriting—setting credit limits, interpreting financial signals, and making independent credit decisions.
- Risk & Bureau Tools: Hands-on experience with commercial credit bureaus (D&B or equivalent) and end-to-end ownership of KYB (Know Your Business) processes.
- Automation-Minded Philosophy: You view manual underwriting as a temporary state, actively track human-in-the-loop decision metrics, and systematically work to drive automation rates up.
- Portfolio Analytics & Reporting: Proven capability in tracking key metrics like delinquency, cohort performance, and limit utilization, alongside strong written communication for clear exception documentation and executive updates.
- Industry Context: Background in a fast-paced fintech, corporate card, or SMB credit environment.
- Bonus Qualifications: Experience contributing to automated credit decisioning engines; proficiency in SQL or Snowflake for self-serve data analysis.
Applications for this role will be accepted through 01/27/2027 or until the role is filled. We encourage you to apply early, as we may begin reviewing applications before the deadline.
