To provide leadership within the accounting function, building operational excellence in day-to-day general activities, driving improvements in month-end close in support of a high-complexity advanced manufacturing business which includes a Parent company and its two wholly-owned subsidiaries. This role is critical to supporting the company’s scale up as Divergent matures from a research and development into a production company.
The Role- Lead core accounting operations: Overall general ledger & sub-ledger transactions, month-end close incl. AP/AR, payroll, intercompany, etc. as well as technical accounting.
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting (incl. balance sheets, profit & loss statements, cash flows, statement of equity). Drive the design and execution of automation initiatives. (e.g., Smartsheets)
- Partner directly with senior finance leadership on audits, board materials, and investor reporting.
- Provide accounting expertise for financial and cost accounting including, but not limited to, inventory, and fixed assets, and complex financial instruments.
- Collaborate with Program Management and Production to ensure appropriate revenue/cost recognition for development and production programs.
- Maintain and improve internal control environment; lead initiatives for policy development and systems automation.
- Provide accounting support for the ongoing ERP and MES integration efforts, with a focus on scalable infrastructure for growth.
- Hire, manage and mentor a high-performing accounting team; provide training, coaching, and development paths.
- Oversee external audit readiness and government compliance
- Drive continuous improvement across the accounting organization with a focus on accuracy, speed, and business partnership.
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, active CPA license.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a people management role.
- Expertise in GAAP, cost accounting, and manufacturing accounting practices.
- Strong ERP and systems orientation; experience with complex platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle Cloud.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement and system implementation initiatives.
- Executive-level communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Prior experience in the aerospace and defense sector, including familiarity with cost accounting standards (FAR, DFARS, CAS).
- Experience with project-based accounting and contract manufacturing models.
- Exposure to compliance audits and reporting under government contracts.
- 3+ years at a Big 4
- Hybrid role with regular presence in office in Torrance, CA as required.
- Cross-functional interaction with Production Operations, Engineering, Data/Enterprise Applications, and Compliance.
