Who We Are

Tria Federal delivers digital services and technology solutions that support the health and safety of veterans, service members, clinicians, and civilians. For two decades, federal agencies have relied on Tria companies to advance their critical missions and modernize their systems so they can uphold their commitment to the American people.

Today, we are pushing the boundaries of possibility through human-centered design, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, developing solutions for the biggest challenges government will face tomorrow.

We are proud to employ and support military veterans who bring a mission-first mindset, technical expertise, and leadership qualities that strengthen our work. Veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Tria Federal is seeking a Senior / Lead Accessibility Specialist to help shape accessible digital experiences across federal modernization initiatives.

This role serves as the accessibility leader supporting one or more product teams, partnering closely with product designers, UX researchers, product managers, engineers, quality assurance professionals, and client stakeholders to integrate accessibility throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery through delivery.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in digital accessibility with strong consulting and collaboration skills. You understand that accessibility is more than compliance. You help teams build products that are inclusive, usable, and accessible by design while ensuring compliance with Section 508 and WCAG standards.

You will work closely with specialists across Tria's Human Experience (HX) Practice to establish accessibility as a core discipline alongside product design, user research, and product strategy.

As part of Tria's Human Experience Practice, you will contribute to the continued evolution of modern, AI-augmented accessibility capabilities within federal digital services. You will help define how emerging AI technologies and advanced tooling can responsibly accelerate accessibility reviews, improve quality, reduce manual effort, and strengthen accessibility across our programs.

Depending on organizational needs and experience, this role may also provide technical leadership and mentorship for Tria's Accessibility discipline.

Must be a U.S. Citizen due to federal security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

Accessibility Leadership

  • Serve as the accessibility lead supporting one or more Agile product teams.
  • Integrate accessibility into discovery, design, development, testing, and production activities.
  • Partner with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, and quality assurance teams to ensure accessibility is considered throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Translate accessibility standards into practical implementation guidance for product teams.
  • Promote accessibility as a shared responsibility rather than a final compliance activity.
  • Support accessibility strategy for complex digital products and enterprise applications.

Accessibility Assessment and Consulting

  • Conduct accessibility evaluations using manual testing, automated tools, and assistive technologies.
  • Review wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and production-ready interfaces for accessibility, including work created in Figma.
  • Identify accessibility risks and provide clear, actionable remediation recommendations.
  • Support development of VPATs, accessibility reports, and other compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with client accessibility offices during accessibility reviews and assessments.
  • Advise teams on accessible interaction patterns, content, forms, navigation, and component behavior.
  • Help establish practical accessibility guidance that balances compliance, usability, and user needs.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Product Designers, UX Researchers, Content Strategists, Product Managers, Engineers, quality assurance teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Contribute accessibility expertise during discovery, backlog refinement, sprint planning, design reviews, and release planning.
  • Contribute reusable accessibility playbooks, templates, standards, and best practices.
  • Support adoption of accessible design systems, reusable components, and experience patterns.
  • Mentor accessibility specialists and help grow accessibility knowledge across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Foster a culture where accessibility is integrated into everyday product development.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital accessibility, Section 508 compliance, accessibility consulting, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accessibility efforts for complex web applications or enterprise systems.
  • Experience with tools such as Axe DevTools, ANDI, JAWS, NVDA.
  • Strong expertise in Section 508, WCAG 2.2, ARIA, and accessible user experience principles.
  • Experience performing manual accessibility evaluations using assistive technologies and automated accessibility testing tools.
  • Experience collaborating closely with designers, developers, product managers, and quality assurance teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.
  • Proficiency reviewing and collaborating on accessible designs in Figma, including design systems, components, prototypes, and interaction flows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain accessibility concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • DHS Trusted Tester certification.
  • Experience creating or reviewing VPATs.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end development practices.
  • Experience evaluating document accessibility.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining accessible design systems.
  • Experience presenting, teaching, or mentoring others on accessibility best practices.
  • Experience contributing to accessibility strategy or organizational capability development.
  • Experience supporting or consulting with Federal Government programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

AI-Enabled Accessibility Capabilities

  • Use AI tools to accelerate accessibility workflows, including accessibility evaluations, documentation, remediation guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging AI-powered accessibility tools and recommend opportunities to improve quality, consistency, and delivery efficiency.
  • Apply AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight, accessibility expertise, and professional judgment.
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to integrate AI-assisted accessibility practices into modern digital delivery.
  • Help shape Tria's long-term vision for AI-augmented accessibility services within the Human Experience Practice.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and continuous learning around emerging accessibility technologies and AI-enabled workflows.

This role does not require machine learning engineering expertise, but it does require comfort working in AI-enabled environments and curiosity about how AI can improve accessibility delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting CMS or other Federal civilian healthcare agencies.
  • Familiarity with additional tools such as ARC Toolkit, WAVE, VoiceOver, Accessibility Insights, Figma, Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms is a plus.

Impact You'll Make

  • Improve the accessibility and usability of digital services used by millions of Americans.
  • Help federal agencies move beyond compliance by integrating accessibility throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Influence product decisions through thoughtful accessibility leadership and collaboration.
  • Accelerate accessibility delivery through responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies.
  • Advance Tria's Human Experience Practice as a leader in accessible, human-centered federal digital services.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
