About Riot Insights
The Insights discipline empowers Rioters to make player-focused, data-informed decisions. We are an interdisciplinary group of scientists, consultants, and strategists who illuminate the globally diverse experiences, behaviors, and needs of players so Riot can deliver meaningful value across games and beyond.
About the Ecosystem Insights Team
The Ecosystem Insights team serves as Riot’s underwriting body for major ecosystem bets ensuring investments across Esports, Publishing, Platform, CPX, and Entertainment are grounded in rigorous, player-centric evidence. The team works on connecting around-game experiences to downstream player and business outcomes, and partners directly with EcoLT to inform strategy, prioritization, and long-term investment decisions.

The Role
As Senior Insights Manager, Ecosystem Insights you will be a hands-on research leader and strategic partner, owning complex ecosystem research problems end to end. You will design and execute mixed-methods research that clarifies how and why around-game experiences create value for players, and translate those findings into clear, decision-ready guidance for senior stakeholders.

This role emphasizes strong individual ownership, craft excellence, and influence through insight, with people management responsibilities. You will lead through expertise, problem framing, and partnership, while also supporting the growth and effectiveness of a small number of researchers contributing to ecosystem work.

Responsibilities:

Ecosystem Research Ownership

  • Own ecosystem-level research initiatives from problem framing through delivery (e.g., player journey mapping, ecosystem value drivers, hypothesis validation).
  • Design and execute mixed-methods research (qualitative, quantitative, behavioral) to answer ambiguous, high-impact ecosystem questions.
  • Develop clear research frameworks and hypotheses that ladder into ecosystem health and player lifecycle outcomes.

Strategic Decision Support

  • Synthesize complex findings into concise, decision-ready narratives for EcoLT and senior product leaders.
  • Support underwriting of major ecosystem bets by evaluating expected player and business impact, tradeoffs, and risks using evidence-based analysis.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with analytics counterparts to align research insights with KPI frameworks, attribution models, and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with Publishing, Platform, CPX, and Esports partners to ensure research is grounded in real decisions and informs prioritization.
  • Act as a thought partner in early discovery, helping stakeholders sharpen questions before solutions are defined.

Research Craft & People Leadership

  • Maintain a high bar for methodological rigor, synthesis, and storytelling.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and feedback to researchers contributing to ecosystem work, supporting strong problem framing, method selection, and insight synthesis.
  • Support the growth and performance of direct reports through regular 1:1s, goal-setting, and actionable feedback aligned to Insights craft standards.
  • Contribute to shared research standards, templates, and best practices across Insights.
  • Manage external research vendors on scoped projects as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in insights, research, or related roles, with deep expertise in qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Demonstrated experience owning complex research programs independently in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Strong applied experience with mixed-methods approaches and translating findings into strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear narratives and evidence.
  • Proven track record of effective cross-functional partnership with product, strategy, analytics, or publishing teams.
  • Experience providing people management including mentoring or managing researchers, delivering feedback, and supporting individual growth and performance.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working on ecosystem-level, portfolio-level, or cross-product research (e.g., publishing, platforms, media, live services).
  • Familiarity with esports, creator ecosystems, or entertainment-adjacent player experiences.
  • Experience informing KPI frameworks tied to player lifecycle outcomes such as retention, re-engagement, or advocacy.
  • Comfort operating with evolving definitions, incomplete data, and long-term strategic horizons.

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
