Under the guidance of a chief forensic data analyst, this position develops and employs innovative techniques for data analysis, resulting in the extraction of critical, near real-time information. Senior information analysts are responsible for collecting and analyzing data to support OIG staff in the conduct of assigned investigations and develops and modifies computer applications and scripts to extract requested information.
DUTIES:
- Extracts, merges, and conducts analysis of large data sets from multiple external data sources
- Performs quality reviews of large volumes of data sets, resolves discrepancies, duplicates, missing information, and validates information
- Compiles, develops, and generates statistical and narrative reports to summarize findings
- Develops, maintains, and manages dashboards and other BI solutions
- Develops basic to moderate SQL queries to extract and manage data
- Recognizes business requirements and devises solutions to meet data requirements
- Prepares reports, documents process, and provides project presentations
- Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Six (6) years of work experience in data analysis/management, of which one (1) year work experience in programming and modifying computer applications, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college with an associate’s degree in computer sciences, information technology/systems or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of work experience in data analysis/management, of which one (1) year is in programming and modifying computer applications, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, information technology/systems or a directly related field, plus two (2) years of work experience in data analysis/management, of which one (1) year is in programming and modifying computer applications, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree or higher in computer sciences, information technology/systems or a directly related field, plus one (1) year of work experience in data analysis/management and programming and modifying computer applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in data science, predictive analytics, statistics, mathematics, or information management
- Work experience in an investigatory or law enforcement organization
- Work experience with data visualization software products, e.g. Tableau, Power BI, etc.
MODERATE KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Quantitative data analysis methods
- Methods and techniques of database analysis and design
- Tools to query and analyze data in a relational database
- Software and data management tools such as R, Tableau, Python, SPSS, MySQL, Oracle or other similar tools
- Structured Query Language (SQL) and reporting platforms
- Data mining processes and tools
- Report writing to summarize findings/results
ANNUAL SALARY: Range: $78,768 – $128,316 (annual increases). Starting $78,768 (non-negotiable); Post six-month review $82,524.

TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE: Travel outside Chicago is not required. Standard office hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., flexibility permitted.
