The Senior HCM Analyst, Workday, serves as a functional and technical subject matter expert responsible for the administration, maintenance, optimization, and continued evolution of our Workday HCM.

The role will own core Workday system support and ongoing process improvement, while partnering with People Systems leadership, HR Business Partners, HR Operations, and other cross-functional stakeholders on business enablement, strategic initiatives, integrations, and system enhancements. The role requires strong Workday configuration expertise, including business processes, integrations, reporting, and security, as well as experience working in a global or multi-entity environment with country-specific requirements.

Success requires both reliable ownership of the system’s day-to-day functional needs and a continuous-improvement mindset: resolving immediate issues while strengthening the processes, configuration, and technical foundation behind them.

Core Responsibilities

Core System Support & Administration

  • Serve as a primary Workday HCM subject matter expert, independently troubleshooting and resolving complex system, configuration, data, and process issues.

  • Own ongoing Workday administration and maintenance across Workday foundational structures and functionality, such as business processes, positions, job profiles, supervisory organizations, security, reporting, organizational changes, integrations, and file feeds.

  • Build Workday capability across the People team by providing guidance, training, and support for routine system tasks, data maintenance, and reporting, while serving as the escalation point for issues.

  • Diagnose and correct business process errors, configuration issues, data discrepancies, and downstream impacts to maintain system stability, accuracy, and an effective end-user experience.

  • Maintain system integrity and data quality through proactive monitoring, audits, testing, documentation, and issue resolution.

  • Monitor and support integrations, scheduled processes, file feeds, and related interfaces; investigate failures and coordinate resolution with internal technical teams and external partners as needed.

  • Create and maintain system documentation, configuration references, process workflows, testing materials, and user guidance to support sustainable system administration.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Maintain a continuous pipeline of Workday enhancements and process improvements that reduce manual work, strengthen controls, and improve the employee and manager experience.

  • Evaluate existing workflows and configure sustainable solutions using Workday functionality, including notifications, approvals, routing, validations, eligibility rules, calculated fields, and related automation.

  • Design, test, implement, and document enhancements to support evolving HR processes and business requirements, including global or country-specific needs.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate redundant steps, improve data quality, and increase appropriate employee and manager self-service.

  • Develop and maintain system documentation, configuration records, process workflows, testing materials, and user guidance to support sustainable operations and knowledge transfer.

Business Enablement & Reporting

  • Partner with People & Culture, cross-functional teams, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective Workday solutions.

  • Develop and enhance reports, dashboards, business processes and other configurations in partnership with process owners, balancing business needs with system governance and controls.

  • Partner with process owners to prioritize enhancements and assess requests for technical feasibility, dependencies, security considerations, downstream impacts, and scalability.

  • Provide technical guidance and enable adoption for stakeholders, communicating and documenting complex Workday concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Strategic, Technical & Cyclical Initiatives

  • Partner with People leadership and cross-functional teams on strategic Workday initiatives including integrations, job architecture, large-scale automation, and new or expanded functionality.

  • Design, test, and deploy practical enhancements supporting evolving business and geographic needs, including new processes or requirements in international locations.

  • Support the design, testing, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Workday integrations and downstream system connections in partnership with IT, vendors, and business owners.

  • Provide Workday configuration, reporting, testing, and issue-resolution support for time-sensitive cyclical programs such as open enrollment, merit and bonus cycles, payroll activities, audits, and other annual or periodic processes.

  • Serve as a knowledgeable internal partner during larger initiatives, helping reduce reliance on external AMS/vendor support by building internal capability and independently resolving work that can be effectively supported in-house.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on Workday HCM experience, preferably within an HR function or consulting capacity.

  • Strong functional and technical knowledge of business process configuration, integrations, EIBs/file feeds, custom reporting, audit reporting, and security permissions.

  • Expert understanding of HR processes and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable system solutions.

  • Experience building or maintaining Workday reports and calculated fields; experience with dashboards, eligibility rules, custom objects, and advanced configuration.

  • Demonstrated experience independently troubleshooting complex Workday issues and evaluating downstream impacts across processes, data, security, reporting, or integrations.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and balance day-to-day system support with enhancement and project work.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and partner effectively across HR and cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across functions.

  • A strong understanding of Payroll, Time & Absence, Compensation, Recruiting, and Benefits within Workday.

  • Experience supporting cyclical HR processes such as compensation, benefits/open enrollment, payroll, performance, or audits.

  • Working knowledge of UK HR practices, employment requirements, payroll processes, and data privacy/compliance considerations, with the ability to translate local requirements into effective Workday configuration, processes, and system support.

  • Workday certifications and experience with additional Workday modules such as Benefits, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, or Payroll are a plus.

Special Work Conditions

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
