Job Description SummaryAs the Senior Grid & Electrical Integration Engineer, you will be a pivotal expert in grid modeling and simulation, focusing on advancing the quality and accuracy of electrical models and simulations for wind farm integration. You will ensure the quality and accuracy of grid models by leveraging your deep knowledge of wind power systems and relevant simulation tools. Additionally, you will establish and maintain benchmarks for model quality and performance. Essential Responsibilities:
- Grid Modeling and Simulation Expertise:
- Oversee the creation and validation of electrical models and wind farm simulations using tools like PSCAD, PowerFactory, MATLAB, and PSSE.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of grid models, drawing on technical expertise in wind power systems and relevant simulation tools.
- Work closely with GE engineering, customer contractors, and third parties to integrate regional requirements into grid modeling.
- Grid Industry Advocacy:
- Represent GE in industry forums and working groups to promote best practices and standards for grid integration.
- Collaborate with grid operators and industry stakeholders to stay aligned with evolving grid codes and regulations.
- Model Quality and Benchmarking:
- Set and maintain benchmarks for model quality and performance.
- Conduct thorough reviews and validations of simulation models to ensure they meet industry standards and contract obligations.
- Grid Compliance Driven Turbine Design Development:
- Ensure compliance with the contract and applicable grid codes for GE wind turbines and the GE Wind Park Controller system (WindCONTROL), including interfaces with Customer Control/SCADA systems or grid operators.
- Define and implement strategies for grid code compliance testing, leading internal testing activities and supporting customers during Grid Code Compliance tests.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Mentor junior engineers and share valuable feedback with commissioning and service teams to improve engineering processes.
- Optimize turbine operation under various conditions, including normal and contingency situations.
- Identify and evaluate additional scope arising from customer communication and project management, ensuring any proposed changes are commercially beneficial for GE.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years experience using PSCAD
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the wind industry, electrical, or electric power engineering.
Desired Characteristics:
- Master’s or PhD degree in wind, electrical, electronic engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads.
- Experience with simulation tools (PSCAD required, and MATLAB / PSSE desired).
- Experience with time-domain simulation tools, specifically programming, tuning, and using user-written “black box” models in PSCAD for wind turbine generators, or other advanced power electronic-based systems (desired).
- Experience in analyzing grid codes, extracting requirements, and defining system/component specifications for meeting those grid codes.
- Experience in grid code compliance testing.
- Knowledge of relevant wind industry Standards and Design Codes.
- Ability and availability to travel (national and international) 10% to 20% of the year.
- Strong, self-directed, collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Comfortable providing technical presentations to peers, customers, and leadership regarding the details of technical issues and project status. Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.

- Experience in High & Medium Voltage Electrical equipment.
- Experience with technical interfaces management among several customer contractors and/or third parties.
- Experience with Controls systems & SCADA systems.

For candidates applying to a Canadian-based position, the pay range for this position is between $120,000 and $180,00 CAD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
