On-site This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to New Carlisle, Indiana on a full-time basis.
Introduction to Synergy Cells
Synergy Cells is a joint venture (JV) between General Motors and Samsung SDI, combining manufacturing and electrochemical expertise to create battery cells that will power GMs electric vehicles. When finished, the facility will be 2.8 million-square-feet and is scheduled to launch in 2027.
The Role
At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an environmental engineer at Synergy Cells New Carlisle, you will have the opportunity to lead the air, waste and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work collaboratively with diverse groups to create and implement best in class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site. We are currently looking for talented individuals who have a passion for the environment and who want to help make the facility a leader in environmental compliance and sustainability.
This position is an experienced technical position for a Senior Environmental Engineer .
A Senior Environmental Engineer works independently and is capable of managing new or complicated issues with collaboration as needed with other subject matter experts and functional areas.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for supporting the construction, installation of equipment, obtaining environmental permits and development and implementation of environmental management system.
- Responsible for developing/maintaining/supporting robust and consistent environmental stewardship program strategies in support of GM's mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.
- Responsible for leading and managing a team of salaried and contract environmental professionals.
- Experienced in at least one of the main environmental programs (air permits and regulation, water permits and regulations, or waste regulations)
- Engages with Subject Matter Experts as necessary to ensure continual improvement and support new program/project implementation.
- Key collaboration with plant management and employees, Facility Managers, regulatory agencies, internal and external community leaders and members, legal staff, GM and external audit services, utility service providers, Project Planning teams at sites & HQ, domain experts and chemical and resource management business partners.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree with a major in Engineering or related sciences field.
- 6 years' experience in Environmental Engineering with an understanding of manufacturing, with rotations between environmental programs (air, water, waste) and/or between locations with environmental management.
- Experience and working knowledge of Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Wastewater Pretreatment Permitting and/or Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements or related media.
- Demonstrated expertise in more than one environmental discipline or a highly developed ability in one specialty area.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge
- Experience leading, managing or overseeing small teams and/or contracted environmental service providers.
- Battery Cell Manufacturing or Battery Component experience.
