Our Data Platform team powers that mission — building scalable infrastructure, enabling self-service, and delivering trusted data to every corner of the company.
We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Core Infrastructure and Services squad. In this role, you’ll oversee data infrastructure, platform services, and governance initiatives — from integrating diverse data sources into governance tools to evolving the foundational architecture that supports SoFi’s long-term growth.
What You’ll DoData Platform Services
- Automate at Scale — Drive automation and self-service for governance, quality, and metadata to improve velocity and reduce operational overhead.
- Streamline Ingestion — Unify data ingestion across real-time, batch, and CDC patterns for reliable, consistent entry into the platform.
- Future-Proof — Design and evolve platform architecture for scalability, flexibility, and long-term growth.
- Build Trust — Implement monitoring, validation, and quality frameworks to ensure data is accurate, fresh, and compliant.
- Enhance Discovery — Improve metadata, lineage, and visibility so teams can find and understand data quickly.
Data Governance
- Integrate sources like Postgres, S3, and DynamoDB into governance tools (Alation, Collibra).
- Define and enforce governance policies in partnership with stakeholders.
- Lead the development of metadata management and data quality capabilities.
Infrastructure & Cloud Management
- Manage SoFi’s data infrastructure (SDP), ensuring high availability and scalability.
- Oversee Terraform Cloud for IaC automation.
- Handle Snowflake RBAC and enforce secure data access.
- Monitor Snowflake & AWS costs, implementing optimization strategies.
Leadership & Strategy
- Mentor engineers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of learning and innovation.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, ML, analytics, and compliance teams.
Develop a 3–5 year roadmap for data platform evolution. - Evaluate and integrate SaaS and open-source solutions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years in data engineering, infrastructure, or similar roles.
- 5+ years leading engineering teams in cloud-first environments.
- Proven experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift — including architecture, security, and optimization.
- Strong background in AWS (S3, EMR, Lambda, ECS/EKS) and IaC (Terraform, AWS CDK, Helm).
- Expertise in ingestion/streaming (Kafka, DMS, Flink), orchestration (Airflow, dbt), governance (Great Expectations, Monte Carlo), and security/compliance frameworks.
- Experience with open table formats (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake).
- Familiarity with feature stores, ML pipelines, or vector databases.
- Performance engineering expertise (query optimization, caching, workload isolation).
- Track record of driving adoption of governance frameworks and platform modernization at scale.
