We have an opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Solutions Development team as an Energy Engineer – Implementation & Optimization. Why This Role is Important:

This role ensures that the technical feedback loop between Solutions Development team, installation partners, and product manufacturers or owners is actively managed and continuously improved. As the Technical Implementation Lead, this individual owns the identification and resolution of post-installation issues, leads documentation of field outcomes, and drives improvements that elevate the consistency and scalability of future deployments. Insights gathered through real-world field experience will inform best practices and strengthen future implementation strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as the Technical Implementation Lead bridging internal team, third party installation partners and product manufacturers/owners to ensure aligned implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and vet new third-party energy efficiency solutions for potential deployment across customer sites.
  • Perform detailed pre-installation assessments and validations, including documentation of site conditions, anticipated savings, and implementation challenges.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues encountered during or after installations, coordinating across departments to implement timely and effective resolutions.
  • Analyze post-installation system performance and energy savings using EM&V methodologies and data analysis tools.
  • Document field issues, resolutions, and improvement opportunities in a structured format to improve knowledge sharing and prevent recurrence.
  • Create and maintain technical implementation guides, checklists, and documentation templates that support scalable deployment.
  • Develop scalable engineering strategies for HVAC and refrigeration system design with emphasis on real-world feasibility.
  • Ensure technical compliance with industry codes and energy incentive program requirements.
  • Contribute feedback and insights that shape Budderfly’ s design standards, implementation playbooks, and future product selections.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in energy efficiency, HVAC/R system implementation, or technical solution design.
  • Proven track record with HVAC and refrigeration technologies, including RTUs, kitchen exhaust systems, and VRF heat pump systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities for field-installed systems.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, IMC, and commercial incentive programs.
  • Experience in developing, evaluating, and documenting ECMs and implementation workflows.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling tools, Excel-based calculators, and performance verification methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Certifications such as CEM, LEED AP, or PE license are preferred.
  • Willingness to travel (~30%) for site support, audits, and installations.

Location: Remote

Compensation
$100,000$125,000 USD

Compensation is based on factors including level of experience, skillset, qualifications, and location.
