Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision is looking to hire a FULLY ONSITE Senior EHS Engineer for Milpitas, CA location. The Senior EHS Engineer (60% - 70% Environmental, 30% - 40% Health and Safety) is responsible for leading the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Compliance Monitoring Programs to build a proactive Safety culture. This role supports all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Management System at the J&J Surgical Vison, Milpitas, California as well as other J&J locations. As an influential member of the different leadership teams, you will collaborate with internal business customers and domain authorities to ensure compliance with regulations and implementation of innovative EH&S techniques to identify EHS risks proactively.

Key Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:
Ensure a high level of EHS performance for the site.
Provide technical expertise for all EHS programs: environmental (waste, air, water, tanks), ergonomics, contractor safety, machine safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and emergency preparedness.
Prepare and submit all Environmental Reports such as BAAQMD Annual Data Updates, CUPA HMBP, CARB State Programs: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting, and Refrigerant Management Program, including gathering/verifying/validating data, reviewing for potential exemptions, and conducting threshold and release calculations
Ensure in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as J&J EHS Standards including Management of Change.
Maintains the processes and activities associated with the ISO 14001 certification program, including communications, policies and procedures, reports and metrics, individual projects, and objectives.
Partner with local management to develop and implement a site CAPA process to address EHS program deficiencies, including CAPA effectiveness confirmation and ensure EHS regulatory compliance.
Bring global best practices into the site and actively share site perspective, knowledge and lessons learned to contribute and support a best-in-class professional level of EHS globally.
Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling to site functional leaders on EHS programs/processes via dashboards & reports.
Review, update, develop required EHS programs including, but not limited to: IIPP, HMBP, HAZCOM, EAP, SOPs, LOTO/HECP, Confined Space Programs, Fire Prevention Programs, Biosafety, Lab Safety, Hot Works Program, Radiation/Laser Safety, Warehouse Safety and Chemical Inventory.
Perform ergonomic risk assessments, conduct machine safety risk assessments, and develop job safety analysis for automated and manual job functions.
Perform analysis for reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies and J&J's corporate offices as appropriate and/or required.
Perform routine EHS assessments, utilize the J&J Program Reviews, Assurance Audit, and Self Assessments to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk.
Lead incident investigations for all reported injuries, including First Aid and Good Saves.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required; advanced degree or focused degree in EHS, Engineering, Science or related field is preferred.
Required:
Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) experience with emphasis on Waste Management (Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, Non-Hazardous Waste), Air, Water (Stormwater, Drinking Water, Wastewater), Tanks, Chemical Management, Biosafety, Laser Safety and R&D experience
Experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling EHS risks in the workplace
Proven track record to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action
Experience in planning, implementing and managing EHS projects with adherence to budget and schedule
Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions and J&J Credo
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced dynamic environment with minimal supervision
Proactive, reliable and communicative EHS professional
Proficient in MS SharePoint and MS Office software programs
Capable of multi-functional assignments
Ability and willingness to travel to other locations
Manufacturing/R&D experience in a highly regulated environment
Relevant experience in consulting will be considered.
Technical/working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
Technical experience in diverse EHS areas
Certifications in CIH, CHMM, CSP, and/or ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor
Capability to energize and inspire others towards higher performance and execution
Passion about the role, a positive “can do” attitude
Demonstrated project management skills
This position may require up to 10% domestic travel
A requirement for physical exertion (lifting or moving objects >25lbs/10Kg in weight)
Requirement for long periods of sustained visual focus and concentration
Expectation to use a computer on an almost continuous basis, every day
External Interactions:
Conducting and hosting all planned and unannounced internal and external inspectors and auditors according to the requirements in the site-specific procedure.
Responding to and reporting to external complaints and inquiries according to the site communications policies and procedures.
Corresponding with regulatory agencies to acquire, modify and renew permits required by federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
