Job Description

As Senior Editor, Thought Leadership, you will be a hands-on editorial force at the heart of ServiceNow's content engine — equal parts strategist, storyteller, and operator. You will shape the ideas we pursue, the angles we take, and the quality of what we publish — primarily for Workflow, ServiceNow's proprietary thought leadership hub.

This is not a pure management role. You will write, pitch, edit, and produce — developing original thought leadership that reflects the most important conversations happening in enterprise technology and AI. You will also help define and maintain the editorial infrastructure that keeps our content calendar running with precision and purpose.

You will report to the Head of Editorial & Thought Leadership and work closely with integrated marketing, digital experience, research, and executive teams to ensure our thought leadership earns attention — and keeps it.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Shape content pillars and storylines for thought leadership, ensuring themes are tightly connected to ServiceNow's value proposition and business priorities

  • Partner with integrated marketing leads to ensure the editorial strategy flexes across buying groups and audiences — and identify opportunities to weave or connect these narratives into content into other editorial and research content

  • Bring an outside-in perspective to content planning: translate news, trends, and cultural shifts into differentiated editorial ideas

  • Uncovers the story beneath the story by asking the questions that go beyond the briefing doc to surface unexpected insights, tensions, and perspectives that make thought leadership worth reading

Editorial Management

  • Define and maintain the editorial calendar for Workflow, ensuring the right mix of cadence, format, and topic to build a consistent publishing rhythm on the platform

  • Uphold quality standards and editorial rigor across all content, serving as an active editor for work produced by internal writers, contributors, and external partners

Content Development

  • Develop and pitch compelling story ideas grounded in original research, customer insights, SME perspectives, and market signals

  • Conduct interviews, write, and edit long-form articles, executive bylines, human interest pieces, and SEO content destined for Workflow — with the editorial range to see how a feature story could translate into a 90-second video script or social-first format

  • Brief and prep executives and SME contributors for content participation, making the process easy and the output strong

  • Assess content performance and translate data into actionable editorial recommendations — identifying what's resonating, what isn't, and what to do about it

Qualifications

Core Competencies:

  • Editorial Craft — Exceptional writing, editing, and story development skills; able to work across formats and adapt voice to different audiences and contexts

  • Strategic Thinking — Connects individual stories to broader content strategy and business objectives; thinks in themes and narratives, not just individual pieces

  • Tech & AI Fluency — Solid grasp of enterprise technology, AI, and the evolving SaaS landscape; comfortable translating complex topics into clear, compelling content

  • Pitching & Ideation — Proactively generates strong story ideas and brings them to the table with clear editorial rationale

  • Collaborative Instinct — Knows how to work with stakeholders, executives, and cross-functional partners without losing editorial independence

  • Perpetual Curiosity – Voracious consumer of AI news, research, and emerging trends; always reading, always connecting dots, and constantly bringing fresh intelligence into the editorial process

The ideal candidate should have:

  • 10–12 years of experience in editorial, journalism, content strategy, or thought leadership — ideally within technology, media, or a related industry

  • A strong portfolio of written work demonstrating range: long-form reporting, executive voice content, and human interest pieces

  • Experience managing editorial calendars and working within structured content workflows

  • Demonstrated ability to pitch original ideas and see them through to publication

  • Comfort operating as both a strategic contributor and a hands-on executor

  • Experience working with cross-functional partners including marketing, design, research, and executive leadership

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
