About the Role

As Senior Director, Marketing, you will be ClassWallet's senior marketing leader. You will report to the Chief Product Officer and own the full marketing function: brand, product marketing, demand generation and account-based marketing, events, marketing content, marketing operations, and the corporate website.

ClassWallet is moving to a product-led operating model, and this role is central to that shift. You will turn what we build into a clear market story, then turn that story into qualified pipeline with state agencies, school districts and other public-sector clients. You will partner closely with Sales leadership on pipeline and with Product Management on every launch. Product Strategy & Insights owns market analysis, pricing analysis, win/loss and proposals; you take new markets forward from the go/no-go decision.

This is a player-coach role for a builder. You will set the strategy, shape and develop the team, and roll up your sleeves on the work itself.

Responsibilities

  • Own the marketing strategy, annual plan and budget across people, programs, events and agencies.
  • Set pipeline targets jointly with the Chief Revenue Officer, and own marketing-sourced and marketing-influenced pipeline as the team's headline number.
  • Own ClassWallet's brand, positioning and messaging, using market and win/loss insight from Product Strategy & Insights, and keep the story consistent across the website, sales materials, proposals and events.
  • Build and run an account-based marketing program with Sales, aimed at state agencies, school districts and other public-sector buyers and timed to budget cycles, legislative sessions and procurement windows.
  • Own the event and trade show portfolio end to end: decide where ClassWallet shows up, run it well, and prove the return.
  • Lead launch marketing under our tiered launch model, partnering with Product Management from business case through launch.
  • Once ClassWallet commits to a new public-program market, lead its go-to-market, building on the market analysis from Product Strategy & Insights, through to the first reference clients.
  • Own marketing content, including case studies, thought leadership and creative writing produced with an outside agency, and supply the Proposals team with approved messaging and proof points.
  • Run the corporate website as a pipeline channel, with a focus on conversion, SEO and accessibility.
  • Build marketing operations and reporting the business trusts, starting with attribution and a pipeline baseline in your first 90 days.
  • Hire, develop and lead a high-performing team, with clear goals and accountability.
  • Select and manage agencies and contractors for paid media, video production, web development, creative writing and surge capacity.
  • Report marketing performance to the CPO and executive team, and contribute to board reporting.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of B2B marketing experience, including 5+ years leading marketing teams.
  • Experience marketing to government, education or other public-sector buyers, where sales cycles are long and formal procurement such as RFPs is the norm.
  • A track record of building or rebuilding a marketing function at a growth-stage company.
  • Proven ownership of a pipeline target in partnership with sales leadership, with results you can quantify.
  • Hands-on experience running account-based marketing and events-led programs.
  • A strong product marketing foundation: positioning, messaging and launches.
  • A player-coach who is as comfortable doing the work as leading it.
  • Data-driven, and fluent in marketing automation, CRM platforms and marketing attribution.
  • An excellent writer and presenter, able to communicate with executives, public officials and families alike.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience in fintech, payments, govtech or edtech SaaS.
  • Experience taking a product into a new vertical or public-program market, such as human services or workforce programs.
  • Experience helping a company move from a sales-led to a product-led operating model.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
