As Senior Director, Data and Science (Data Development), you'll lead our Data Development team, harnessing real-world medical data to produce life-saving insights and create advancements across ophthalmology, neurology, and urology. You will lead the development of Verana Qdata®, our data platform that is reshaping drug lifecycle management and clinical practice. You will work with a vast and growing network of de-identified patient data from over 20,000 clinicians, giving you the power to improve healthcare outcomes at scale. This is a remote role, reporting directly to the SVP of Data and Science. For employees located within 50 miles of our offices in San Francisco, Knoxville, or New York, we encourage a hybrid work schedule to foster in-person connections and collaboration.

  • Lead and inspire a team of top-tier data scientists and engineers, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and learning.

  • Guide the integration of complex clinical data from diverse sources, including electronic health records (EHRs) and medical imaging, ensuring data quality and integrity.

  • Architect, develop, and implement state-of-the-art algorithms for data processing, advanced modeling, and insightful interpretation, using the latest advancements in NLP and deep learning.

  • Collaborate with teams across the organization, including Commercial, Product, Medical, and Engineering, to define data requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and deliver impactful insights that inform strategic decision-making.

  • Establish and advocate for best practices for the data exploration lifecycle, ensuring efficient and reproducible research.

  • Mentor team members in machine learning and natural language processing standards, promoting their professional growth and expertise.

What Sets You Apart

  • Master's degree (required), Ph.D. (preferred) in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience deploying and scaling large language models (e.g., BERT, GPT) for real-world clinical applications.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a leadership role, managing exceptional technical teams.

  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Pyspark, R, and SQL, and familiarity with cloud-based data platforms like Databricks and Amazon Sagemaker.

  • Translate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, with experience with storytelling and data visualization.

  • An understanding of healthcare data standards, privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and ethics considerations related to data use.
