Why We're Hiring

Data and analytics are critical to how Complex makes decisions, but this role is about much more than dashboards, reporting, or tracking KPIs. We’re looking for a senior analytics leader who can turn complex, imperfect data into clear business insights and strategic action.

Complex operates across eCommerce, Content, Advertising, and Live Events, creating a uniquely rich—and often complicated—data environment. Understanding how these businesses work individually, and how they intersect, is a core part of the opportunity. The right person will embrace that complexity, quickly identify what matters, and help leadership make better decisions across the organization.

This role requires a strategic thinker who can move fluidly between high-level business questions and detailed analysis. You will partner directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, solve important business problems, and determine where data can have the greatest impact. You will be expected to use AI and emerging analytics tools to accelerate analysis, automate repetitive work, explore new questions, and move from question to insight to action faster.

The goal isn't to build more dashboards. The goal is to help Complex make better decisions and drive better business outcomes.

This role will be on-site 5 days a week at our NYC office or our Los Angeles, CA office.

What You'll Do

  • Turn data into business outcomes by partnering closely with Complex’s executive leadership and functional leaders to answer the questions that matter most to the business.
  • Serve as a strategic analytics partner across eCommerce, Content, Advertising, and Live Events, developing a holistic understanding of how our businesses operate and how they influence one another.

  • Lead and develop a team of three high-performing analysts, establishing a culture focused on curiosity, business impact, rigorous thinking, and continuous learning.

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into actionable analysis, determining what data is needed, what assumptions need to be challenged, and what conclusions can realistically be drawn.

  • Use AI and modern analytical tools to move quickly, leveraging automation, AI-assisted analysis, scripting, and other emerging technologies to increase the team's speed and effectiveness.

  • Identify opportunities and risks by analyzing trends, customer behavior, business performance, and other signals across Complex's ecosystem—and translate those findings into clear recommendations.

  • Influence business strategy and priorities, helping leadership understand not just what is happening, but why it is happening and what we should do about it.

  • Shape the roadmap for Analytics, prioritizing work based on potential business impact rather than simply responding to reporting requests.

  • Partner with Data Engineering to ensure our data infrastructure supports accurate, accessible, and scalable analysis, while helping prioritize the data investments that will have the greatest business value.

  • Establish the right balance between speed and rigor, knowing when a quick directional answer is more valuable than a perfect analysis—and when deeper investigation is required.

  • Simplify complexity, turning complicated data, business processes, and analytical findings into clear narratives and recommendations that executives and cross-functional teams can act on.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of experience in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Product Analytics, Strategy, or a similar role, with a demonstrated track record of influencing business decisions through data.

  • 4+ years of experience managing and developing high-performing analytics professionals.

  • AI-native mindset: you actively use AI tools to accelerate research, analysis, coding, automation, and problem solving, and you're excited about finding new ways to make an analytics team dramatically more productive.

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with a scripting language such as Python or R.

  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics to solve business problems and drive outcomes, rather than simply produce reporting.

  • Experience working across multiple business functions, products, or revenue streams and synthesizing disparate data sources into a coherent view of the business.

  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms; you understand dashboards as a tool for decision-making, not the end product.

  • Strong statistical and analytical foundation, with the ability to distinguish meaningful signals from noise and correlation from causation.

  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly when the question isn't clearly defined and the data isn't perfect.

  • Comfortable working through incomplete, sparse, inconsistent, or imperfect datasets to reach useful and defensible conclusions.

  • Ability to recognize and challenge assumptions, biases, and limitations in both data and human decision-making.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical findings into concise, compelling recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A natural curiosity about how businesses work and a desire to understand the “why” behind the numbers.

  • You enjoy simplifying complexity—whether it's people, processes, data, analysis, visuals, or communication.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
