About Lantern

The trusted data platform for private markets.

Lantern is built by operators who have lived the exact problem we've set out to fix. Our leadership team has founded, scaled, and exited private markets technology and large scale tech companies before, through acquisitions, IPOs, and global expansions. We know what GPs, LPs, and administrators actually need because we've sat on their side of the table.

Private markets data today is fragmented, manual and slow. Every quarter the same story plays out: numbers arrive from disparate places, sources do not agree, and someone spends their week rebuilding trust from scratch in Excel, hoping nothing slipped through the cracks. It's exhausting. It's avoidable. And it's exactly what Lantern was built to end.

Lantern is not another dashboard. We're building the infrastructure that makes private markets data trustworthy, and we're just getting started.

The Role

As a senior engineer at Lantern, you will build the platform that turns raw data into insights and reporting that our clients can trust, working across our ingestion pipeline, and the APIs and interfaces our clients use.

You will also help us prove out a new way of building. Our product managers and engineers collaborate closely, iterating on specs combining product, architectural and testing requirements, using our agent builder infrastructure to develop the feature. Working with the builder, engineers review and complete the work, and your experience is what keeps the quality bar where it needs to be, so as well as writing code you will be writing the specs agents work from and reviewing the code they produce.

This is a role for someone who knows what good looks like, is able to help shape our engineering standards, and can take real ownership working closely with our product team, using agentic development at a point where very few engineers have that level of experience.

About You

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including systems you have owned in production.
  • Strong Python, with real experience building and maintaining APIs.
  • Practical experience working with coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, and a good sense of what they handle well and where they need supervision.
  • Experience in private markets or fund administration, and comfortable with concepts like capital accounts, NAV, commitments and drawdowns.
  • Strong SQL and data modelling skills, comfortable owning a schema and writing your own migrations.
  • Familiar with the full path to production, including containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and observability.
  • A thorough reviewer whose feedback makes other engineers better.
  • Willing to make a call and write the standard down when one doesn't exist yet.
  • (Bonus) TypeScript and Next.js, Terraform on GCP, or experience shipping LLM-based features to real users.

What You'll Get

  • Outsized influence, from day one. You'll help set the engineering standards for a platform that's still being built, with the opportunity to make an impact quickly.
  • Agentic development, for real. Work with our builder infrastructure daily and gain experience very few engineers have yet, with the tooling to do it properly.
  • A seat at the frontier. Work alongside the world's leading private equity firms and financial institutions as the industry shifts from people-powered to technology-powered.
  • A collaborative team, backed properly. Engineers here own what they ship and see it in front of clients quickly.
  • A competitive package: Health benefit and disability benefits, 20 days leave excluding public holidays

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
